Covent Garden Fitted Wardrobes
Planning fitted wardrobes for a home in Covent Garden? We start with a design visit and a quote in writing, before anything is made.
- A sloping ceiling that’s hard to use
- A bedroom that never feels tidy
- Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
Need fitted wardrobes in Covent Garden?
From workshop to your room
Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. On fitting day in an older house, the main job is scribing to walls and levelling on floors that slope, so there’s some trimming and adjusting on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit, as terraced streets are often busy.
- You describe the bedroom and the storage you need.
- We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers.
- We put the design, materials and finish into a written quote.
- We then make the wardrobes in our workshop, ready for spraying or for hand painting on site.
- We bring them to your home and fit them in place. We adjust the doors so they hang and close evenly.
Before fitting day
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Clear the area where the furniture is going

Advice
About our fitted wardrobes in Covent Garden
Loft conversions, common in London terraces, often leave sloping ceilings. We can shape a wardrobe to follow the ceiling line, keeping long hanging where there is height and drawers or shelves lower down. It turns an awkward corner into storage. If your home has standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall and clothes with nowhere proper to go, that’s what fitted wardrobes are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
In streets where many homes were built before 1919, as they were around Covent Garden, plenty of bedrooms have solid brick external walls. Those walls can be colder than internal ones, so wardrobes and storage on them are designed with ventilation behind and inside to help avoid condensation. Smaller back bedrooms in houses of that age are good places for fitted wardrobes.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Why bespoke in Covent Garden?
Walls and floors in older homes are seldom straight or level. A standalone wardrobe can lean, rock or show tapering gaps. Ours are levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the walls. Tall ceilings in older homes leave a band of empty wall above standard furniture, wasting space that could hold things you rarely use. Built-in pieces can run to the cornice or the picture rail.
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

Bedrooms in Covent Garden: local notes
In the neighbourhood around Covent Garden, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 50%) and the years since 2000 (about 21%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. The National Heritage List has 836 entries within half a mile of the centre of Covent Garden. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Near central London, streets tend to be narrow and busy, so carrying the sections from the van to the door takes planning.
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Royal Opera House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. Living in a block of flats near London Charing Cross station? Then the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. For a family home near St Clement Danes CofE Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.
Covent Garden is part of the City of Westminster, about 1 mile west of City of Westminster. We work across all London boroughs and the City of London, and Covent Garden is part of that. Our work takes in places right across Westminster, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.
Design visits and fitting in W1F, W1D and W1T work the same way as everywhere else we cover. If your home is on a street like Duck Lane, Drury Lane and New Square, or close by, we can arrange a design visit for fitted wardrobes. Covent Garden sits close to the A301 and A400. Other places close to Covent Garden include Seven Dials (1 mile west), Aldwych (1 mile east), Adelphi (1 mile south), St Giles (1 mile north-west) and Clare Market (1 mile north-east). We also make fitted wardrobes in nearby places such as Victoria (2 miles south-west), Paddington Green (2 miles west), Paddington (2 miles west), Connaught Village (2 miles west), Belgravia (2 miles south-west) and Lisson Grove (2 miles north-west).
Local landmarks in Covent Garden
The streets we cover here include those near Punch & Judy pub, Mercers' School and LSE Shaw Library, among other places. There is a railway station in Covent Garden itself: London Charing Cross station. Well-known places in the area include Savoy Hospital (a few minutes’ walk south-east) and London Museum and Institute of Natural History (under half a mile east). Green spaces nearby include St. James's Park Lake and Ludgate Hill.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes
I live near London Charing Cross station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Westminster and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
My house in Covent Garden is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?
Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.
Which is better for fitted wardrobes, hinged or sliding doors?
That depends on how much space there is in front of the wardrobe. Where a bed sits close by, sliding doors often work better. We look at it with you when we measure.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We’ll design around them.
Is it OK to put a wardrobe on an outside wall?
Yes. We plan ventilation behind and inside wardrobes on external walls, in moisture-resistant MDF. If there is damp on the wall already, it should be sorted first.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need someone to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
What affects the price in Covent Garden
We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- Parking and unloading on your street
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Before the design visit
To give us a picture of the room, it’s useful to include:
- Your postcode and the borough
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit for you to look over. To book one, use our contact form.
