Fitted wardrobes in Lisson Grove
How we make fitted wardrobes for Lisson Grove
Loft conversions, common in London terraces, often leave sloping ceilings. We can shape a wardrobe to follow the ceiling line, with long hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it gets lower. It turns an tricky corner into storage. Most enquiries start with a bedroom that never feels tidy and a sloping ceiling that’s hard to use, and the answer is made in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
In a flat, a spare bedroom often doubles as a study or a guest room, and closed storage lets the room change role without clutter. Around Lisson Grove, most households live in purpose-built flats. We plan the space in front so every door and drawer opens fully.
Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Fitting day, step by step
Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. For a flat, the stairs, landings, lift and doors are measured as well as the room: fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for each of them. Mansion block lifts can be small, and some blocks have no lift at all, which the design allows for.
- You send us some details about the room and the storage you need.
- We come to measure the room, check the walls and ceiling and agree the layout.
- You receive a written quote setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish.
- We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop, sized to get through your doors and up the stairs.
- We install the wardrobes, hang the doors and fit the rails, shelves and drawers. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.
Preparing the room
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Empty the space we’ll be working in

Arranging a design visit
If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, fill in our short enquiry form.
Advice
Flat-pack or bespoke?
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Fitted wardrobes for homes in Lisson Grove
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Lisson Grove were built before 1919 (about 37%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 18%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Within a mile of the centre of Lisson Grove, 13 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your home in Lisson Grove is on or near a main road, tell us at the design visit. We’ll plan where the van can stop.
If you live near Regent's Park, keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. If you live in a period home close to St Paul's Community Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.

What it’s made from
Moisture-resistant MDF
Wardrobe doors are large, so stability matters. MDF stays flat and gives a smooth surface for painting, whether the doors are plain or panelled.
Birch plywood
Drawers get heavy use, so we often make the boxes from birch plywood, so they hold their shape.

Is it time for fitted wardrobes?
Most people come to us because they’ve simply run out of space. Clothes end up on chairs, in boxes under the bed or in another room. A fitted wardrobe uses the full height of the wall, so you get more storage from the same floor space.
Here’s what fitted wardrobes can help with:
- Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
- Storage boxes stacked under the bed
- Wardrobes that are full to bursting
- A sloping ceiling that is hard to use
For families living near Gateway Academy, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.
Before you hire any carpenter
- A written quote that sets out the job
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
FAQs: fitted wardrobes in Lisson Grove
I live near London Marylebone station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Westminster and the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Lisson Grove?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit.
Will a sloping floor cause problems for fitted wardrobes?
Uneven floors are normal in older homes. We set fitted wardrobes level on a plinth or adjustable feet.
How do I get a quote for fitted wardrobes in Lisson Grove?
It’s easiest to message us from the contact page and tell us about the room. We then arrange a design visit, measure up and send a quote in writing.
Can fitted wardrobes follow a sloping ceiling?
Yes. Many loft rooms have sloping ceilings, and fitted wardrobes are one of the best ways to use them. We measure the slope carefully at the measuring visit and scribe the wardrobe to it.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. Let us know when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.
When you need someone else
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:
- Structural changes to the room
- Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician
- Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
