Fitted wardrobes for your home in Adelphi
About our fitted wardrobes in Adelphi
You can choose hinged or sliding doors. Hinged doors open a whole section at once, but they need clear space in front to swing. Sliding doors save that space in a narrow room, but only part of the inside is open at any one time. We weigh them up with you during the design visit. Most enquiries start with condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall and wardrobes that are full to bursting; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Purpose-built flats are home to most households around Adelphi, so bedroom space is often tight and every wall counts. Taking fitted furniture up to the ceiling adds storage without using more floor. Each piece is made in sections sized for the stairs, lift and doors, and assembled once it’s inside.
Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

The problems fitted wardrobes solve
Some bedrooms are hard to furnish. A sloping ceiling, a chimney breast, a low window or a door in the wrong place can defeat standard furniture. Fitted wardrobes are shaped around them.
Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:
- A room too narrow for hinged doors
- A sloping ceiling that is hard to use
- Storage boxes stacked under the bed
- Not enough hanging space
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Paul Covent Garden, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Before you choose who makes it
- Whether you’ll get a written quote, not just a figure
- Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
What affects the cost of fitted wardrobes
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- Parking near your home
- How big the furniture is
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
What we need to know
What helps most when you first contact us:
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a written quote. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.
Caring for painted furniture
None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:
- Move furniture away from the wardrobe wall in advance
- Think about whether hinged doors will clear the bed
- Ask your electrician about moving sockets early
- Check the route into your flat, not just the room
New paintwork is dry to the touch long before it has fully cured. At first, handle the doors with care.
Make sure vents at the top or bottom of the wardrobe are not blocked, particularly on an external wall. Look out for a musty smell or spots on clothes and deal with any damp early.
Flats, leases and landlords
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, finished by spray or by hand.

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in Adelphi
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Adelphi?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Adelphi?
Yes. Adelphi is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Westminster and London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
Is it possible to have storage over the bed?
Yes. Storage around a bed makes good use of a wall that’s often wasted. We measure the bed and the room at the measuring visit.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.
Fitted bedroom furniture in Adelphi
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Adelphi were built before 1919 (about 41%) and since 2000 (about 26%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Within a mile of the centre of Adelphi, 38 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. More than a third of the homes in the streets around Adelphi (about 41%) were built before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Older bedrooms typically have alcoves and tall ceilings, both of which fitted wardrobes can use, scribed to walls that aren’t straight.
Close to Victoria Embankment Gardens? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. For a flat near London Charing Cross station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

From workshop to your room
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Some buildings have a concierge, a lift booking system or set working hours, so it’s worth checking with the managing agent beforehand. Floors in the flat and the common parts are protected while the furniture comes in.
- To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the bedroom and what you need to store is enough.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan the inside: long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers.
- A written quote follows, listing the layout inside, the doors and the finish.
- The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
- We fit the wardrobes in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
