Paddington Green Fitted Wardrobes

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on fitted wardrobes in Paddington Green starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

  • Standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall
  • Mismatched bedroom furniture
  • A sloping ceiling that is hard to use

Rail heights are set for the clothes they hold. A tall section suits long coats and dresses, while shirts, jackets and folded trousers suit two rails, one above the other. We plan for the people using it too, keeping rails at a height they can reach. If you are living with damp or musty clothes against an external wall and bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes, fitted wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

When floor space is tight, the space over the door and above the bed head is often wasted. Since most households around Paddington Green live in purpose-built flats, fitted furniture that bridges those spaces is worth considering. Higher cupboards are best for things you use less often, like spare bedding or suitcases.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

When you need someone else

Not everything around fitted wardrobes is carpentry, such as an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:

  • Decorating or plastering the room
  • Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
  • Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician

If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

What it’s made from

  • Hinged or sliding doors
  • Birch plywood
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

Materials and finishes

Doors and drawer fronts

Drawer fronts can sit behind the doors or on the outside, depending on the look you prefer. Internal drawers keep a clean run of doors.

Birch plywood

For drawers that are used every day, birch plywood boxes are hard-wearing.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Paddington Green

Can you fit furniture in a home close to London Paddington station?

Yes. We cover all of Westminster and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room.

Is Paddington Green in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?

Yes, Paddington Green is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Westminster and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

What if my bedroom floor isn’t level?

Uneven floors are normal in older homes. The wardrobes are levelled on adjustable feet or a plinth.

How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?

We plan the sections around the route into your flat, then assembled in the bedroom. Let us know about any concierge or lift booking rules.

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, particularly with rough sizes. To send them, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Electrical work is not something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.

What happens on fitting day

Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is typically only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Noise from drilling travels in a block, so neighbours may appreciate a note, and many buildings limit noisy work to certain hours. We plan the day to suit those rules. Saturday work is by arrangement where the building permits it.

  1. It starts when you let us know about the room, the floor it’s on and the wardrobes you want.
  2. At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn. Tell us about parking as well, as a van typically needs a permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension in much of London.
  3. A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
  5. Fitting day: the sections come in, are joined and set level, and the doors are hung.

How to prepare

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way

How to get a quote

Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough sizes and some photos if you have them. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a written quote.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.

What it costs

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • The overall size of the piece
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Parking near your home

There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

What we need to know

You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:

  • Any ideas or images you have saved
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • How you want to use the space

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit. To book one, message us from the contact page.
