How we make fitted wardrobes for Golders Green

Rooms under a slope are common in loft conversions and top-floor rooms. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, with long hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it gets lower. It turns an awkward corner into storage. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are space under the eaves going to waste and standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall.

Floors in older houses often slope, and a large share of the homes around Golders Green are that old. Pieces stand on a levelled plinth or adjustable feet, so the doors line up and the gaps run straight. The scribe at the wall takes up any bow in the plaster.

The furniture is made at our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Questions we are often asked

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Golders Green?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

I live near Cricklewood station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Barnet and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

We need someone to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

How do I get started?

The first step is to send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room. We then arrange a design visit, measure up and send a quote in writing.

How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?

Each wardrobe is built in sections that suit the stairs, landings and lift. Let us know about any concierge or lift booking rules.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it’s set out in the quote.

Is bespoke worth it?

Walls and floors in older homes are seldom straight or level. A standalone wardrobe can lean, rock or show tapering gaps. We set fitted wardrobes level and scribe them to the walls and ceiling. Ready-made units stop well short of a tall period ceiling, wasting space that could hold things you rarely use. Fitted furniture can go all the way up.

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A larger piece means more material and more time. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Fitted wardrobes in Golders Green: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Golders Green were built before 1919 (about 52%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 26%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. The National Heritage List has 67 entries within half a mile of the centre of Golders Green. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and fitted wardrobes can be designed to work around them. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 40% of households in the streets around Golders Green, according to Census 2021. A house like that normally has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.

Close to Childs Hill Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window. For an older house near Church of St Alban the Martyr, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

What it’s made from

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF has no grain, so painted doors look smooth and even. We use the moisture-resistant grade for fitted wardrobes.

Spray-painted finish

Spraying coats edges and corners evenly and leaves no brush marks. You choose the colour before we start.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

What happens on fitting day

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so a clear area to work in near the room helps. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Where the finish is hand-painted, it can be done after the pieces are in.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the bedroom.
  2. At the design visit, we measure up and plan the doors and the inside with you. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
  3. You receive a quote in writing setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish.
  4. The wardrobes are made in our workshop, sized to get through your doors and up the stairs.
  5. We fit them in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Tell us about parking near your home

How to get a quote

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. For a quote, use our contact form.

Is it time for fitted wardrobes?

A finished loft conversion often leaves a new bedroom with sloping walls and no storage. Storage built into the slope uses space that would otherwise go to waste.

Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:

  • Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
  • Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
  • Too little room for clothes
  • Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms

If your children go to Rimon Jewish Primary School or a school nearby, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.

Before you choose who makes it

  • How the furniture will be finished, and where
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
