White City Fitted Wardrobes

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make fitted wardrobes for homes in White City, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • A room too narrow for hinged doors
  • Space under the eaves going to waste
  • Not enough hanging space

Pricing fitted wardrobes in White City

Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:

  • The internal fittings
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing. To start, send us a few details through our contact form.

Getting in touch

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you contact us, it’s useful to send:

  • Examples of the look you are after
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. For a quote, drop us a line using the contact form.

Fitted wardrobes for homes in White City

In a period bedroom, the alcoves beside the chimney breast make natural wardrobe spaces. Wardrobes in both alcoves leave the chimney breast on show, scribed to follow the uneven walls. We meet the picture rail and cornice neatly, or cut around them. Typical reasons to get in touch are storage boxes stacked under the bed and a tight bedroom where doors get in the way; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

In a part of London with mixed housing, like much of the city, bedrooms can be anything from a box room to a big front room. Fitted wardrobes can work in any of them, from a small spare room to a main bedroom. Nothing is assumed to be square, so the room is measured carefully.

A written quote follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

Questions from White City

Will a conservation area stop me having fitted wardrobes fitted in White City?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Is White City in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?

Yes, White City is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, and then we send a quote.

What happens at the measuring visit?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.

How is the price worked out?

It depends on the size, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish. We send a quote in writing after the design visit.

How long will the fitting take?

The fitting depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. The making happens in our workshop.

Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?

We make the wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. In a leasehold flat, it is worth checking the lease first.

Fitting day, step by step

Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is typically only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. London parking ranges from controlled zones to driveways and private bays, so tell us what applies during the design visit. If you live in a flat, any lift or building rules are worth checking too.

  1. You let us know about the room, including any slopes, alcoves or windows. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
  2. A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout.
  3. A written quote follows. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
  4. We then make the wardrobes in our workshop, ready for spraying or for hand painting on site.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted in your home, ready to use. We adjust the doors so they hang and close evenly.

Before we arrive

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

Starting with a design visit

The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, use our contact form.

Advice

Where other trades come in

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Curing damp, which needs the right specialist
  • The loft conversion itself, which is building work under Building Regulations
  • Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can use our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How it works.

Bedroom storage in White City

About 43% of the homes in the neighbourhood around White City went up before 1919, and about 18% between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. White City is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. About 52% of households in the neighbourhood around White City live in purpose-built flats, according to Census 2021. For a flat, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.

If your children go to Ark Swift Primary Academy or a school nearby, fitted wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. For an older house near St Michael and St George, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.

The problems fitted wardrobes solve

Moving home often prompts it. Wardrobes from an old home rarely suit a new room, or may not make it up the stairs. Built-in wardrobes are planned for the room you live in now.

We are often asked to help with:

  • Too little room for clothes
  • Storage boxes stacked under the bed
  • Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
  • Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall

Near listed buildings like Building Adjoining to West of Harrow Club, under half a mile east of the centre of White City, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Will the quote be in writing?
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
  • How they handle walls that are not straight
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from

How it is made

Hand-painted finish

A hand-painted finish often suits wardrobes in older houses. The colour is agreed with you, and touch-ups are simple.

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is stiff and grips screws firmly, so it’s a good choice for carcasses, shelves and drawer boxes. You can paint the edge or leave the layers showing.
