Fitted wardrobes in Lampton

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Fitted wardrobes in Lampton: what you get

Loft conversions, common in London terraces, often leave sloping ceilings. We can shape a wardrobe to follow the ceiling line, with long hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it gets lower. It turns an awkward corner into storage. If you’re living with clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms and damp or musty clothes against an external wall, that is what fitted wardrobes are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Many 1930s houses have had a loft conversion, adding a bedroom under a sloping ceiling, and the slope can take storage cut to its angle. Around Lampton, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a large part of the housing. We work in lofts that are already converted, with each piece scribed to the slope and set level.

A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

Bedrooms in Lampton: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Lampton were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 31%) and since 2000 (about 27%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Within a mile of the centre of Lampton, 4 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Hounslow is inside it. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Lampton is covered by it. Access and parking are talked through during the design visit.

For families living near Alexandra Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. Osterley House, about 1.1 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice. If your home is one of the older houses near St Luke, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.

Lampton is within the London Borough of Hounslow, about 1 mile south-east of Hounslow. Anywhere in Lampton, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a quote in writing, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. We cover places right across Hounslow.

We cover every part of the TW3, TW7 and TW5 postcode area for fitted wardrobes. Streets in the area include York Road, Star Road and Pears Road, and we cover homes on all of them for fitted wardrobes. Nearby, we also make fitted wardrobes in Hounslow (1 mile south-east), Spring Grove (1 mile north-east), Osterley (1 mile north-east), Woodlands (1 mile south-east) and Heston (1 mile north-west). Other parts of Hounslow we cover include Feltham (3 miles south-west), Brentford (3 miles east), Chiswick (5 miles east), Strand-on-the-Green (4 miles east), Gunnersbury (4 miles east) and Brentford End (2 miles east).

Why bespoke in Lampton?

Standalone wardrobes cost less to buy and can come with you when you move. If you’re renting or moving soon, that may matter most. Fitted wardrobes stay with the room, and are planned to suit it. Off-the-shelf furniture comes in a few set depths, so they can stick out too far or waste space behind. Fitted furniture is made to the depth the space can take.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, then set it out in the quote.

Why us?

  • Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home
  • Every London borough and the City of London covered
  • Edges scribed to follow your walls
  • Finished by spray or by hand

What fitted wardrobes can’t fix

Not everything around fitted wardrobes is carpentry, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:

  • Building work to create a loft room
  • Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
  • Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work

Not sure whether your space suits fitted wardrobes? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll tell you. Our process from visit to fitting.

How fitting day works

There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. The main stairs in houses of that age are usually straighter. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and agree the layout and doors.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. The wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then sprayed if you chose a spray finish.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted and scribed, with any hand painting done in the room.
  6. Before we leave, we go through the doors and drawers with you. New paint takes time to cure, so treat it gently at first.

Before fitting day

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

Questions from Lampton

Is parking a problem for fitting in Lampton?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Lampton?

Yes. Lampton is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Hounslow and London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?

The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. That’s why we measure the route, not just the room. If you are in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to walls.

Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?

We allow for it from the start. We level the wardrobe on a plinth or feet and scribe it to the walls so the doors close neatly.

What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?

It depends on the size, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish, along with access and parking. The price comes in a written quote after the design visit.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
