How we price fitted wardrobes
We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
What we need to know
You do not need exact measurements or a plan. It is enough to send:
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
To make a start, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us a little about the room and what you want the furniture to do. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a written quote follows.
About our fitted wardrobes in Whitton
You can choose hinged or sliding doors. With hinged doors, you see a full section when you open them. Sliding doors save that space in a narrow room, although only part of the wardrobe is open at a time. Which suits your room is something we talk through when we visit. If your home has not enough hanging space and storage boxes stacked under the bed, fitted wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
The front bedroom in many 1920s and 1930s houses sits above a bay, which leaves the side walls for storage and the bay for light. Around Whitton, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so it’s a room shape worth planning for. We measure every wall, even where the room looks square.
Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

What happens on fitting day
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop, one at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom.
- At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
- You receive a quote setting out the design and the paint finish, ready for you to read through.
- The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop.
- Fitting day: the wardrobes go in, are levelled and scribed, and the doors are hung. The rails, shelves and drawers go in last.
Before fitting day
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Empty the space we will be working in
How to get a quote
If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Whitton
About 56% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Whitton went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 18% before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Whitton is partly covered by the Rosecraft Gardens Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If you live on or close to a main road in Whitton, let us know during the design visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.
For an older house near All Saints Church, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice. If you live in a flat close to Whitton station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. Near listed buildings like Brinsworth House, less than half a mile south of the centre of Whitton, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.

Flats, leases and landlords
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you get in touch.
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, once we’ve measured the way in.
Materials and finishes
Moisture-resistant MDF
Wardrobe doors are large, so stability matters. MDF stays flat and gives a smooth surface for painting.
Hanging rails
A long rail needs a support in the middle. We plan the rail lengths with that in mind.
Could you do it yourself?
It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Whitton
Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Whitton?
Yes, we work across Richmond upon Thames, Whitton included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Whitton?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it. We agree the colour with you.
Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?
We plan the sections around the route into your flat, and the wardrobe is put together in the room. Let us know if your block has lift or concierge booking rules.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by arrangement. Tell us when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.
What if my bedroom floor is not level?
Uneven floors are normal in older homes. We set fitted wardrobes level on a plinth or adjustable feet.
