Fitted wardrobes in Soho, Westminster

For homes in Soho, we make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Each piece is finished by spray or by hand, in the colour you choose.

  • Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
  • Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
  • Space under the eaves going to waste

How fitting day works

Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so it helps to let neighbours know about fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. To begin, send us a few details through our contact form; a brief note on the bedroom and what you need to store is enough.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the inside with you, from rail heights to drawer depths.
  3. The written quote sets out each wardrobe’s inside layout, the doors, the materials and the finish.
  4. The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
  5. We fit the wardrobes in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

About our fitted wardrobes in Soho

Wardrobes can be built around a bed, with cupboards each side and a run of storage above the headboard. In other rooms, the units sit either side of a window, sometimes with a dressing table or a window seat between them. We plan the layout so the room still feels open. Most enquiries start with dusty space on top of the wardrobe and too little room for clothes, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Older London houses often have sash windows, and their position, along with any shutters, affects where furniture can go. For one of the older homes that make up a large share of the housing around Soho, the layout lets the sash open fully and keeps the light unblocked. Doors are chosen and hung so they clear the bed, the radiator and the door to the room.

The furniture is made in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Honest limits

We make and fit furniture, and we don’t do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Structural changes to the room
  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
  • Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Materials and parts

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Hinged or sliding doors
  • Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
  • Hand-painted finish

How it is made

Hanging rails

Rails are set at heights that suit your clothes: one high rail for long coats and dresses, two rails for shirts and jackets.

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF in a moisture-resistant grade is stable and paints evenly, so we use it for doors, end panels and the faces you see. It’s a sensible choice against a colder external wall.

Is it time for fitted wardrobes?

Some bedrooms are hard to furnish. Slopes, chimney breasts, low windows and doors in tricky spots leave standard wardrobes with nowhere to go. Fitted wardrobes are shaped around them.

Here’s what fitted wardrobes can help with:

  • Mismatched bedroom furniture
  • A sloping ceiling that’s hard to use
  • No space in front for doors to swing
  • Not enough hanging space

For an older house near St Anne's Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?

Questions we’re often asked

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Soho?

Yes, we work across Westminster, Soho included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Soho?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you, and it is set out in the quote.

Which is better for fitted wardrobes, hinged or sliding doors?

Both work well, depending on the space. Hinged doors give full access but need clear space in front, while sliding doors save space but only open part of the wardrobe at a time. We’ll help you weigh them up when we visit.

Will fitted wardrobes get up the stairs to my flat?

The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. That’s why we measure the route, not just the room. If you’re in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to walls.

What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?

It is worked out with you when we measure, starting from the clothes you have. Some shelves can be adjustable so the layout can change.

Could you do it yourself?

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.

Fitted wardrobes for homes in Soho

Homes built before 1919 make up about 49% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Soho, with about 21% built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. There are 955 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Soho. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Streets close to central London are often narrow and busy, with loading bays in short supply, so the route from the van to your door is planned ahead of time.

For a flat near Tottenham Court Road station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. The wider area includes historic houses like Benjamin Franklin House, about 0.5 miles south-east. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Soho is about 1 mile west of City of Westminster, in the City of Westminster. From period terraces to newer flats in Soho, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. Our Westminster coverage includes Soho.

In W1F, W1T and W1D, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. Whether you live on a street such as Duck Lane, Drury Lane and Bridle Lane or on one nearby, we can visit to measure up for fitted wardrobes. Soho sits close to the A4 and A301. If you are just outside Soho, we also cover West End (1 mile east), Chinatown (1 mile south), Seven Dials (1 mile east), St Giles (1 mile north-east) and St James's (1 mile south). Other parts of Westminster we cover include Paddington Green (2 miles west), Paddington (2 miles west), Connaught Village (2 miles west), Lisson Grove (2 miles north-west), Westbourne (3 miles west) and Little Venice (2 miles west). Being one of the larger places in Westminster, Soho is covered for fitted wardrobes and everything else we make.
