TV and media units for homes in Lisson Grove

Set-top boxes, consoles and amplifiers give off heat, so equipment can’t simply be shut in a closed cupboard. Ventilation is planned into the design, using open backs, gaps or openings where equipment sits. It’s worth checking each maker’s guidance on clearances. If you’re living with bought furniture that doesn’t suit the room and somewhere to keep games tidy, TV and media units made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Around Lisson Grove, most households live in purpose-built flats, and in a flat the living room often has to do several jobs. A single run of TV and media units can hold the TV, books and the things you’d rather keep out of sight. Walls in flats can be brick, concrete, block or plasterboard, so fixings are chosen for each one.

Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Fitting day, step by step

Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Drilling can be heard through the walls and floors of a block, and many buildings limit noisy work to certain hours. Fitting day is planned around any rules your building has. Saturdays can be arranged if your building allows work then.

  1. You contact us with details of the room, the TV and your equipment.
  2. We visit to measure, note the sockets and agree where everything will go. Any new sockets are a job for your electrician.
  3. We send a quote in writing with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The unit is built in our workshop, with cable routes and vents built in, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: the unit goes in, is levelled and scribed, and the cable routes are left clear.

Before fitting day

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

FAQs: TV and media units in Lisson Grove

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Do you cover homes near London Marylebone station?

Yes. We cover all of Westminster and the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do photos help?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you contact us.

How do I get a quote?

It is easiest to message us from the contact page. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it is set out in the quote.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Bought units often have a single cable gap, but cables typically still show somewhere. A built-in unit has routes planned through it, with access panels for changes later. Flats tend to have walls interrupted by doors, radiators and sockets, so off-the-shelf widths rarely fill the gaps. Fitted furniture is made for the spaces that are left.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

Why us?

  • Scribed to uneven walls
  • Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
  • Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Work across the whole of London

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check at the measuring visit.

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, after measuring the route at the measuring visit.

What we do not do

It’s useful to know what’s outside our work before you plan:

  • Connecting the TV signal or internet
  • Moving sockets or adding new wiring, which is for your electrician
  • Taking out a fireplace or chimney breast

Not sure whether your space suits TV and media units? You can use our contact form and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Built-in living-room furniture in Lisson Grove

In the area around Lisson Grove, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 37%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 18%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For a flat near London Marylebone station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. Could you do it yourself?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
