Fitted wardrobes designed for your room
About our fitted wardrobes in Maida Vale
We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. Doors and panels are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in the colour you choose. Then we fit them in your home, levelling them on a plinth or adjustable feet. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are a room too narrow for hinged doors and not enough hanging space.
In houses built before 1919, a floor can drop noticeably from one side of a room to the other, and a large share of the homes around Maida Vale are that old. Fitted furniture sits on a plinth or adjustable feet set level, so doors close square and the gaps stay even. The scribe at the wall takes up any bow in the plaster.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Getting a big standalone wardrobe into a flat or up a tight stair can be difficult. We make fitted wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home, then put together in the room. Chimney breasts in older houses stand out by different amounts, so the recesses either side are rarely the same, which means a matching pair of ready-made units seldom fits both. Each side can be made to its own size.
In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Let us know about parking during the design visit.
Why choose us
- We work across all London boroughs
- Workshop-made and fitted by us
- A spray or hand-painted finish

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes
Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day in an older house, the main job is scribing to walls and levelling on floors that slope, so there is some trimming and adjusting on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. Parking can be tight on terraced streets, so let us know about permits and bays at the measuring visit.
- You contact us with a short note about the room and the wardrobes you have in mind, and we arrange a design visit.
- At the design visit, we measure up and plan the doors and the inside with you. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
- Your quote follows, with the layout, materials and finish set out, so you can see what’s included.
- The wardrobes are made at our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit them in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls.
How to prepare
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
Arranging a design visit
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, message us from the contact page.

When is bespoke worth it?
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
Bedrooms in Maida Vale: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 49% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Maida Vale, with about 16% built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Maida Vale include Church of St Mary Magdalene (Grade I), under half a mile south, and Church of St Augustine (Grade I), under half a mile north. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. About 23% of households in the area around Maida Vale live in flats in converted or shared houses, according to Census 2021. Conversions often leave rooms in unusual shapes, with partition walls, boxed-in pipes and chimney breasts in odd places, and the route in may go through a shared hall and stairs. A lease can require consent for alterations, so it is worth checking yours first.
If you live near Emslie Horniman's Pleasance, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. If your children go to Essendine Primary School or a school nearby, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. If you live in a flat close to Kilburn High Road station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

How it’s made
Plinths and scribe strips
A plinth raises the wardrobe off the floor and takes up any slope. It can line up with the skirting.
Doors and drawer fronts
Drawer fronts can sit behind the doors or on the outside as you prefer. Internal drawers keep a clean run of doors.
What we don’t do
It’s useful to know what’s outside our work before you plan:
- Redecorating around the wardrobes
- Building work to create a loft room
- Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
Not sure whether your space suits fitted wardrobes? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes
Can you fit fitted wardrobes to the uneven walls of an older house in Maida Vale?
Yes, that’s normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.
I live near Kilburn High Road station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Westminster and the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room.
Will fitted wardrobes get up the stairs to my flat?
We plan the sections around the route into your flat. Tell us if your block has lift or concierge booking rules.
Which is better for fitted wardrobes, hinged or sliding doors?
Both work well, depending on the space. Hinged doors open a whole section at once but need room in front to swing. We talk through both at the measuring visit.
Can I choose the layout inside the wardrobe?
The inside is planned around your clothes. Long hanging, double hanging, shelves, drawers and shoe space can all be included. We talk it through during the design visit.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you.
