TV and media units designed for your room
TV and media units for homes in Paddington Green
Where the TV will be wall-mounted, the unit is designed around where the bracket goes. If it stands on the unit, we size the top to suit. If your home has empty alcoves beside the TV and nowhere good for speakers, TV and media units made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
In a block of flats, the stairs, lift and doors decide how big each section can be. Since most households around Paddington Green live in purpose-built flats, TV and media units are designed in sections from the start. Joins are positioned so they’re hidden once everything is in place.
The quote comes in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Common questions about TV and media units
I live in a flat in Paddington Green. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
How do you stop equipment overheating in a TV unit?
We plan ventilation into the unit for boxes, consoles and amplifiers, with open backs, gaps or openings. Each box should have its own space, and it is worth checking the maker’s guidance on clearances.
Can you add sockets behind the TV?
We do not do electrical work. Sockets and wiring are for your electrician. We share the layout so the sockets line up with the design.
How long are you in the house for fitting?
The time on site depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We’ll explain what fitting day involves before we start.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Flats, leases and landlords
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, after measuring the route at the design visit.
What happens on fitting day
Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Where there is no lift, each section is sized to be carried up the stairs safely. The stair turns and landings set the limit. The pieces are assembled in the flat.
- You tell us about the room and what the unit needs to hold, from set-top boxes to speakers.
- We come to measure and talk through screen height, speakers and cables.
- A written quote follows. If anything in it is unclear, ask us.
- Once you’re happy, the unit is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with cable routes planned in.
- We bring it to your home and fit it in place, with the cable routes left clear.
Preparing the room
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Make sure pets are kept safely away

How it is made
Plinths and scribe strips
The plinth raises the unit and hides a sloping floor. Its height can match the skirting board.
Shelves
Each shelf is planned for what will sit on it, with space around for air.
Could you do it yourself?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
