Flats, leases and landlords
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.
Fitted wardrobes in Telegraph Hill: what you get
Fitted wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in a colour agreed with you. Then we fit them in your home, levelling them on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. Typical reasons to get in touch are mismatched bedroom furniture and no space in front for doors to swing, and the answer is made at our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Ceilings in homes built before 1919 are often tall, and a large share of homes around Telegraph Hill are that old. That height can be used, with fitted furniture taken up to the cornice and top cupboards for occasional things. Picture rails, skirting boards and coving are met neatly or cut around.
You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

More for homes in Telegraph Hill
Common questions about fitted wardrobes
My home in Telegraph Hill is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
I live near Brockley station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Lewisham and the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Usually not. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
Who chooses the colour?
You do. The paint colour is agreed with you.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.
Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?
Uneven floors are normal in older homes. We set fitted wardrobes level on a plinth or adjustable feet, so the doors hang true.
Fitting day, step by step
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, particularly in a controlled parking zone, so it is useful to tell us at the design visit what’s outside. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement.
- You get in touch and tell us what you keep in your wardrobes now.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan the inside: long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers.
- The written quote sets out each wardrobe’s inside layout, the doors, the materials and the finish.
- The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, spray-painted in the workshop or hand-painted on site, and the inside fittings go in last.
Before we arrive
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Let us know about parking near your home
Arranging a design visit
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit. To arrange the visit, message us from the contact page.
Advice
Fitted bedroom furniture in Telegraph Hill
About 49% of the homes in the area around Telegraph Hill went up before 1919, and about 16% since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. There are 16 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Telegraph Hill. Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Lewisham included. Vans bringing furniture to Telegraph Hill fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Access and parking are talked through at the measuring visit.
If you live near Fordham Park, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. For a flat near Brockley station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.
Telegraph Hill is about 1 mile north-east of New Cross, in the London Borough of Lewisham. Anywhere in Telegraph Hill, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a written quote, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. We cover places right across Lewisham, large and small.
We cover every part of SE4, SE15 and SE14 for fitted wardrobes. Streets in the area include Mona Road, Pepys Road and Kitto Road, and we cover homes on all of them for fitted wardrobes. Neighbouring places we cover for fitted wardrobes include Nunhead (1 mile south-west), New Cross (1 mile north-east), Peckham (1 mile north-west), St Johns (1 mile east) and Brockley (1 mile south-east). Landmarks near Telegraph Hill
Our area takes in the homes around The Brockley Barge pub. There’s a railway station in Telegraph Hill itself: Brockley station. Other landmarks nearby include Southwark Adult Education Institute (0.6 miles north-west) and Lewisham Shopping Centre (1.4 miles east). Not far away are New Cross Gate Cutting.
The problems fitted wardrobes solve
A move is a common trigger. Standalone wardrobes from a previous home may not fit the new bedroom, or won’t go up the stairs at all. Fitted wardrobes are designed for the room you have now.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
- Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
- An tricky slope in a loft bedroom
- Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
Queen's House, about 2 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
Before you choose who makes it
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- How they handle walls that are not straight
- Will the quote be in writing?
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
What we don’t do
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:
- Curing damp, which needs the right specialist
- Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
- Taking out a chimney breast to make space
If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

What affects the price in Telegraph Hill
Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- The internal fittings
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Parking near your home
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. It is useful to talk about parking at the measuring visit, so it can be planned.
Getting in touch
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you contact us, it helps to send:
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
