About our fitted wardrobes in Perivale

The inside matters as much as the doors. We plan the mix of long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers around your clothes, so coats and dresses have room and shirts do not waste height. It helps to think about what you wear most before we meet. If you’re living with standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall and bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes, that is what fitted wardrobes are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

In a 1930s semi, the main bedroom often sits over the front room and its bay, so fitted storage normally goes on the walls either side while the bay stays open. Interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing around Perivale, so that shape of room is worth knowing. We measure every wall, even where the room looks square.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

How fitting day works

You won’t need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as we’ll have talked about during the design visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You contact us with a few details about the room and the wardrobes you’d like, with a rough idea of what you need to hang and fold.
  2. At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
  3. We send a quote in writing with the layout, materials and finish.
  4. The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to

Advice

Questions from Perivale

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Perivale?

Yes. We cover all of Ealing and the rest of London, and Perivale is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

I live near South Greenford station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Ealing and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Not normally. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

Should I send pictures?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. It’s useful to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Is it possible to build wardrobes into a loft room with a slope?

Yes. Sloping ceilings are common in loft conversions. We measure the slope carefully at the measuring visit and scribe the wardrobe to it.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Flats, leases and landlords

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you.

Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in Perivale

Others simply want the room to feel calmer. A single run of painted doors looks tidier than mixed furniture.

Fitted wardrobes can help with:

  • Not enough hanging space
  • Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
  • No space in front for doors to swing
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall

If you live in a flat close to South Greenford station, it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • Whether you will get a written quote, not just a figure
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Bought wardrobes come in the maker’s finishes. Fitted wardrobes are painted in a colour agreed with you. Bespoke work does take longer than buying from a shop, since there is a design visit, a quote and workshop time first. Standard widths rarely add up to the length of a real wall, which fitted furniture avoids. It can also go up to the ceiling rather than stopping short.

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Tell us about parking at the measuring visit, so it can be planned.
