How we make walk-in wardrobes for Perivale

A walk-in wardrobe gives your clothes a room of their own. We build them in spare rooms, box rooms and corners of bedrooms, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. Everything is made in our workshop and fitted to the room, so it follows the walls and sits level. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a side each for a couple and more space for clothes and shoes.

A good part of the housing around Perivale is interwar, semi-detached or detached. Many 1930s houses have a small box room over the stairs, often with a raised bulkhead in the floor. The main bedroom may have a bay at the front and a chimney breast on the side wall.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

When you need someone else

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:

  • New lights or sockets
  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
  • Building work to create the room

Not sure whether your space suits walk-in wardrobes? You can send us a few details through our contact form and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What it’s made from

  • Hanging, shelves and drawers
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Dressing table
  • Shoe storage

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes

Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the room and what it needs to store is plenty.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
  3. A written quote follows, setting out the layout, materials and finish.
  4. We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.

Before we arrive

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

How to get a quote

Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you are ready, message us from the contact page. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Perivale

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Perivale were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 77%) and since 2000 (about 11%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. The National Heritage List records 11 entries within half a mile of the centre of Perivale. Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. All of London, Ealing included, is inside the ULEZ. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Perivale, as it does anywhere else in London. We go through parking and access at the design visit.

Close to Castle Bar Park? Keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. Pitzhanger Manor, about 2 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.

Perivale is within the London Borough of Ealing, about 2 miles south of Ealing. Wherever you are in Perivale, the process is the same: a design visit, a quote in writing, furniture built in our workshop and fitting in your home. Across Ealing, we cover Perivale.

We cover homes on streets like Lee Road, Wicket Road and Bilton Road, along with the roads around them, for walk-in wardrobes and any of our other fitted furniture. Is it time for walk-in wardrobes?

Others want to clear the bedroom of wardrobes. With clothes in a dressing room, the bedroom can feel more restful.

People typically get in touch with us about things like these:

  • A use for a small spare room
  • Long and double hanging planned around your clothes
  • A calmer, clearer bedroom
  • Proper shoe storage

For an older house near St. Mary with St. Nicholas - Perivale, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Perivale

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Perivale?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit.

Will a conservation area stop me having walk-in wardrobes fitted in Perivale?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

That’s normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you, and it is set out in the quote.

What does a walk-in wardrobe cost?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Each walk-in wardrobe is different, so we price it after the design visit. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Should I send photos?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, particularly with rough sizes. To send them, use our contact form.
