  • Standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall
  • A bedroom that never feels tidy

What it’s made from

Hand-painted finish

A hand-painted finish can be done on site once the wardrobes are fitted. Small marks are simple to touch up.

Hanging rails

Rails are set at heights that suit your clothes: a high rail for long items and double rails for shorter ones.

Fitted wardrobes in Waterloo

Hanging heights are planned around your clothes, not a catalogue. A tall section suits long coats and dresses, while two rails, one over the other, suit shirts and jackets. We also think about who uses it. People typically come to us about a sloping ceiling that’s hard to use and clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Many newer homes have tall windows or full-height glazing in the bedroom, so the remaining walls have to work harder. That’s worth planning for around Waterloo, where many homes date from 2000 onwards, and fitted furniture can use every part of the solid walls. Corner sections are planned so nothing is wasted.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the fitted wardrobe designed for your room, what it is made from and how it’s finished, and the workshop works from it.

Fitted wardrobes in Waterloo: local notes

In the neighbourhood around Waterloo, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 43%) and before 1919 (about 18%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. There are 162 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Waterloo. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. About 43% of homes around Waterloo were built since 2000, well above the figure for Lambeth as a whole, about 17%, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Newer homes often have stud walls and compact rooms, so fixings and sizes are planned with that in mind.

For a family home near Oasis Academy Johanna, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If you live near Jubilee Gardens, keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. Benjamin Franklin House, about 0.7 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.

Waterloo is part of the London Borough of Lambeth, about 2 miles south of Stockwell. Homes in Waterloo are part of the area we cover for fitted wardrobes. Our work takes in places right across Lambeth, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.

In SE1, SE11 and WC2N, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. If your home is on a street such as York Road, Spur Road and Bear Lane, or close by, we can arrange a design visit for fitted wardrobes. Waterloo is near the A301 and A302; on busy main roads, unloading fitted wardrobes takes a little planning. We also cover the places around Waterloo: South Bank (1 mile north-west), Bankside (1 mile north-east), Adelphi (1 mile north-west), Temple (1 mile north) and Charing Cross (1 mile north-west). We also make fitted wardrobes in nearby places like Stockwell (2 miles south), Streatham (5 miles south), West Norwood (5 miles south), North Brixton (2 miles south), Little Portugal (2 miles south) and Clapham (3 miles south-west).

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes

When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections made in our workshop come in next. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer homes often have stud walls, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board. Floors are protected throughout, as many newer homes have finished floors that mark easily, and dust is kept to a minimum.

  1. You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom.
  2. At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
  3. We send a quote in writing with the layout, materials and finish, ready for you to read through.
  4. We build the wardrobes in our workshop, in sections sized to get into your home. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors. The rails, shelves and drawers go in last.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

Getting a quote

We quote once we have seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

How we price fitted wardrobes

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:

  • How big the furniture is
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Parking near your home

Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Let us know about parking during the design visit, so we can plan for it.

Getting in touch

A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:

  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Honest limits

We’re carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. It helps to know these before you plan the job:

  • Building work to create a loft room
  • Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician
  • Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can send us a few details through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We cannot advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

Questions we’re often asked

I live near London Waterloo station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Lambeth and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room.

My home in Waterloo is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Should I send photos?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough sizes. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.

Will a sloping floor cause problems for fitted wardrobes?

Floors in older houses are often out of level. We set fitted wardrobes level on a plinth or adjustable feet and the doors line up.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Do I get to choose the colour?

The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
