Surrey Quays Fitted Home Offices
Fitted home offices in Surrey Quays: built-in desks, shelving and storage for working from home. Every piece is made in our workshop and fitted in your home.
- Flimsy shelves that will not take the weight
- Files and folders piling up
- Wires with no tidy route
Fitted home offices designed for your room
Boards, parts and paint
Doors and drawer fronts
A desk can sit behind doors, out of sight when you are done. It is useful where the room has other jobs too. The design visit is where we agree the doors.
Shelves
Shelving over the desk keeps reference books close. Lower, deeper shelves suit files and a printer. The design visit is where depths are agreed.
Fitted home offices in Surrey Quays: what you get
Spare rooms are a natural choice for an office, though many still need space for guests. The office can be planned to leave space for a bed or a sofa, or doors that close over the desk at the end of the day. We will look at how the room is used when we visit in Surrey Quays. If your home has a desk in the wrong light and a tangle of chargers and leads, home offices made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.
Shelving over a desk on a plasterboard wall needs fixings into the studs or made for the board. With many homes around Surrey Quays built since 2000, that is something we check at the measuring visit. Tall cupboards stand on the floor and are tied back.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the home office we’ve designed for the room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

What affects the price in Surrey Quays
Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- How big the furniture is
- The internal fittings
- Parking near your home
Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so it can be planned.
Before the design visit
You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. It is enough to send:
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To book a design visit, message us from the contact page.
How fitting day works
Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer developments sometimes have their own parking and loading rules, so it is useful to let us know at the design visit. The furniture comes in sections and is fixed in place. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the room and your desk set-up is plenty.
- At the design visit we measure the room, agree the desk height and depth and plan cable routes to the sockets.
- A written quote follows with the design, materials and finish.
- The office furniture is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with gaps for cables planned in.
- We fit it in your home, scribed and set level, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
Before fitting day
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
Starting with a design visit
If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, send us a few details through our contact form.
Advice
Your questions about fitted home offices in Surrey Quays
I live near Surrey Quays station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Southwark and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Surrey Quays?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
How long is the fitting for a home office?
How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Every part is made in our workshop before we arrive. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.
Can the spare room be an office and a guest room?
Often, yes. We plan the office so there’s still space for guests, or with doors that hide the desk away. If space is tight, a wall bed can be built in alongside.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
Getting it in is planned during the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
Built-in desks and shelving in Surrey Quays
Homes built since 2000 make up about 42% of the housing in the streets around Surrey Quays, with about 26% built between 1973 and 1999, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Surrey Quays, Historic England’s list includes The Terrace (Grade II), about 0.5 miles east, and Tide Gauge House on South Quay of Greenland Lock (Grade II), about 0.6 miles north-east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling can need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your street in Surrey Quays joins a main road, it is worth telling us during the design visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.
Living in a block of flats near Surrey Quays station? Then home offices are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. For an older house near St Katharine with St Bartholomew, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk. For families living near Rotherhithe Primary School, a desk long enough for two can serve a laptop and a homework book side by side.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
Tips worth knowing
New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. After that, a few simple habits help:
- Think about what you’d like on show
- Mention any parking rules on your street
- Note how many files and books you need to store
- Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
If you are having new sockets fitted, your electrician can do that around the furniture as planned. It helps if they know where the cable routes are. Keeping cables in their routes keeps the desk tidy.
Use the cable routes so wires do not rub the paint. Tight cables can mark edges over time. A little tidying now and then keeps the office calm.
