Fitted home offices in St Pancras

About our fitted home offices in St Pancras

We make each home office in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives the desk and shelving their strength, and MDF gives the doors and panels a smooth surface for paint. Once painted, by spray or by hand, it’s brought to your home in St Pancras and fitted. We make home offices from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about a tangle of chargers and leads and an alcove or landing that could take a desk.

Purpose-built flats are home to most households around St Pancras, and in a flat, working from home usually means sharing space with something else. Home offices can sit in a recess, a corner of the living room or a bedroom wall. Each piece is made in sections sized for the stairs, lift and doors.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Questions we’re often asked

My home in St Pancras is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. Home offices are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to London Kings Cross station?

Yes. We cover all of Camden and the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can the spare room be an office and a guest room?

Often, yes. We plan the office so there’s still space for guests, or with doors that hide the desk away. A fold-down wall bed can also be built into the design.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

How long will the home office fitting take?

The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Because everything is made at our workshop, the work in your home is the fitting itself. We keep the room as tidy as possible while we work.

Do pictures help?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you tell us about the room on our contact form.

Could you do it yourself?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

Where other trades come in

We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Plastering and decorating around the office
  • Changes to the structure of the house
  • Building a loft conversion, which is not our work

Not sure whether your space suits fitted home offices? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

How it is made

Pull-out drawers

Drawers can form a pedestal under the desk. Leave knee room in the middle. We plan it at the design visit.

Shelves

We can make fixed shelves, adjustable ones, or a mix. Fixed shelves help tall units stay rigid, while adjustable ones let you change things later.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, once we’ve measured the way in.

St Pancras homes and fitted home offices

Homes built before 1919 make up about 41% of the housing in the area around St Pancras, with about 19% built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of St Pancras include Church of St Pancras (Grade I), about 0.5 miles west, and Bevin Court (Grade II*), less than half a mile north-east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. If your home is on or just off a main road, it helps to mention it. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

The wider area includes historic houses such as Dr Johnson's House, about 0.9 miles south-east. If your own home is a period one, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk. If you live near Lincoln's Inn Fields, a desk placed to make the most of daylight makes a big difference to a working day. If you live in a period home close to Lumen United Reformed Church, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.

What happens on fitting day

Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. For a flat, the stairs, landings, lift and doors are measured not just the room: home offices are made in sections sized for each of them. Some older blocks have small lifts or none.

  1. You get in touch and tell us how you work and where you’d like the office, including the equipment you use.
  2. At the design visit we measure, look at the light and the sockets and plan the layout with you. New sockets are for your electrician, so it helps to think about them early.
  3. We send a quote in writing setting out the design, materials and finish, for you to read through.
  4. Your office furniture is built in our workshop and painted to your chosen colour, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The office is fitted in your home and checked, ready for work, with cable routes left clear.

Preparing the room

  • Empty the space we’ll be working in
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
