What we don’t do
Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:

Fitted home offices in Teddington
Spare rooms are a natural choice for an office, though many still need space for guests. We can design desks, shelving and cupboards that leave room for a bed, or doors that close over the desk at the end of the day. It’s worth talking through at the measuring visit in Teddington. If you’re living with a corner too odd for a standard desk and wires with no tidy route, home offices made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.
With a large share of homes around Teddington built before 1919, a small back bedroom or the box room often becomes the office. A built-in desk, shelving and closed storage can fit even a modest room. We plan where cables run, leaving any new wiring to your electrician.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Built-in desks and shelving in Teddington
About 46% of the homes in the area around Teddington went up before 1919, and about 17% between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The High Street Teddington Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Teddington. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your street in Teddington joins a main road, it’s worth telling us at the measuring visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.
The wider area includes historic houses like Strawberry Hill House, about 0.8 miles north. For a period home anywhere nearby, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk. For an older house near Christ Church, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window.
Teddington is about 1 mile north of Twickenham, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Homes in Teddington are part of the area we cover for fitted home offices, as part of our work in every London borough. We make fitted home offices across TW11, TW12, TW2 and TW1 for fitted home offices. Our area takes in homes on streets such as Station Road, High Street and Church Road, for fitted home offices and any of our other fitted furniture. The A311 and A313 runs close to Teddington; on busy main roads, unloading home offices takes a little planning. If you are just outside Teddington, we also cover Strawberry Hill (1 mile north), Fulwell (1 mile north-west), Hampton Hill (1 mile west), Ham (1 mile north-east) and Eel Pie Island (1 mile north). Across the rest of Richmond upon Thames, our area takes in Richmond (2 miles north-east), Richmond upon Thames (3 miles north-east), Hampton (2 miles west), Barnes (5 miles north-east), Kew (5 miles north-east) and Hanworth (2 miles west). As one of the bigger places in Richmond upon Thames, Teddington is covered for all of our fitted furniture.

Fitting day, step by step
However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a period home, the furniture is fitted to walls that aren’t straight, so there is some trimming and adjusting on site. Floors are protected, and dust is kept down as far as possible. Parking can be tight on terraced streets, so let us know about permits and bays during the design visit.
- It starts when you get in touch about a home office.
- We visit to measure and talk about the equipment you use.
- A written quote follows, with the fitting days agreed.
- Your office furniture is made in our workshop, sized for the room, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The office is fitted and set level, ready for your first day at the desk, with the cable routes left open.

Getting a quote
We quote once we’ve seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Flats, conversions and lettings
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Let us know about it when you get in touch.
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route at the design visit.
Your questions about fitted home offices in Teddington
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Teddington?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.
What does a built-in desk cost?
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. A simple desk with shelves involves less work than a full wall of cupboards and drawers. Everything is set out in a quote in writing after the visit.
Can a desk be fitted into an alcove?
In many homes, yes. An alcove beside a chimney breast can take a desk with shelves above. It is scribed to the alcove walls so it fits closely. At the design visit we’ll measure and tell you what fits.
Will you travel outside London?
No. We only take on work in London, across all the boroughs and the City of London.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.
How it’s made
Spray-painted finish
Spray painting suits desks, panels and doors alike. It is carried out in the workshop for an even coat. Any paint colour agreed with you can be used.
Pull-out drawers
Desk drawers keep the things you use every day close by. A deep drawer can hold hanging files. We size each drawer to suit.
Is it time for fitted home offices?
Some people want to separate work from home life. A desk with doors, or an office in a spare room, lets you close the door on work. It helps the home feel restful after hours.
Requests we hear often include:
- An alcove or landing that could take a desk
- A tangle of chargers and leads
- Paperwork and files with nowhere to go
- No proper place to work from home
If you live near Bushy Park, a desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight.
