Fitted home offices in Victoria, Westminster
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on fitted home offices in Victoria starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.
- Cables trailing across the desk and floor
- Work things on show in the evening
- A room with two jobs to do

Fitted home offices in Victoria
Working from home is easier when the desk, shelves and storage are built for the job. Our home offices are made for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and loft rooms, shaped by the way you work. In Victoria, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. People normally come to us about shelving that bows under the load and an alcove or landing that could take a desk, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
In streets where many homes were built before 1919, as they were around Victoria, a small back bedroom or the box room often becomes the office. Home offices can make that room work, with the desk under the window or across an alcove. Cable routes are planned so they run neatly to the sockets, and any new sockets are for your electrician.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

What it is made from
Shelves
Office shelving often carries heavy loads. Span, depth and load all matter. We size each shelf to carry its load without sagging.
Doors and drawer fronts
We make the fronts from moisture-resistant MDF and finish them in the colour you choose. Panels can echo the woodwork in an older room. The gaps are kept even all along.
Working from home in Victoria
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Victoria were built before 1919 (about 48%) and since 2000 (about 18%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how home offices are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Victoria include Buckingham Palace Riding School (Grade I), under half a mile north, and Church of St Barnabas (Grade I), under half a mile south-west. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs. A van working in Victoria will usually need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension arranged through the council, which often needs notice. We ask about parking during the design visit, so the van can be planned for.
If you live in a period home close to St. Michael's Church, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window. If you live in a flat close to London Victoria station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. Close to Green Park? A desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight.

Is bespoke worth it?
If you only need a simple desk against a straight wall, an off-the-shelf desk may be enough. Bespoke work makes sense in an alcove, under a slope, or where you want the desk, shelves and storage to work together. At the design visit, we’ll tell you honestly which approach suits your room. Standard units assume square rooms, and period homes seldom have them, so you end up with gaps, wobbles and units that do not meet the skirting. Fitted pieces follow the wall and sit level.
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Fitting day, step by step
In older rooms, the furniture typically has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. How long fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so it helps to let neighbours know about fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

Starting with a design visit
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
Advice
Questions from Victoria
Will a conservation area stop me having fitted home offices fitted in Victoria?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Victoria?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
What materials do you use for home offices?
The office is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The desk, shelves and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, and MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You do. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.
Is the furniture made to order?
Everything is made in our workshop for your room, then brought to your home and fitted. It is built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
How is the furniture painted?
You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we’ve measured the way in.

Caring for painted furniture
Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:
- Let us know about parking near your home
- Think about matching the woodwork or the walls
- Note how many files and books you need to store
- Consider your chair when planning the desk
Any sockets or wiring are for your electrician, and the furniture leaves room for them. Show them the cable routes so everything lines up. Tidy cables keep the office looking calm.
Use a mat or coasters on the desk for hot drinks. Keep liquids away from the edge. A mat protects the area you use most.
