Loft storage in Aldborough Hatch

Loft storage for homes in Aldborough Hatch

A dormer can take shelves, a desk or a window seat. Dormers have their own shapes, and walls that are seldom square. Each piece is scribed to the dormer. It uses space that might otherwise be wasted. At the design visit in Aldborough Hatch, we’ll look at what fits. If your home has wasted space behind the knee walls and seasonal things cluttering the loft room, eaves cupboards made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

A good part of the housing around Aldborough Hatch is interwar, semi-detached or detached. In a typical 1930s house, storage tends to hide in the bay, under the stairs and in the box room. Any meters or fuse board under the stairs stay accessible, and the storage is planned around them.

Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Pricing loft storage in Aldborough Hatch

Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:

  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • The overall size of the piece
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

What to send when you contact us

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for

The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Bespoke loft storage or ready-made?

Standalone furniture can move with you, and it may suit a short stay. Fitted storage stays with the house, and it uses the slopes in a way a standalone piece can’t. Which suits you depends on your plans. Standard widths rarely add up to the length of a real wall, so fitted furniture is made to the wall’s own length. It can use the full height too.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

What you get with us

  • Edges scribed to follow your walls
  • Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home

Questions from Aldborough Hatch

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Aldborough Hatch?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

Can you make loft storage for a home in Aldborough Hatch?

Yes, we work across Redbridge, Aldborough Hatch included, and across the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch.

Do I choose the paint colour?

The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.

How much does loft storage cost?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The size of the room, the amount of storage and the finish all shape the price. For a quote, use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an awkward room. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.

How fitting day works

Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

  1. It starts with a few details from you.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and agree the layout and colour.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in the loft and check each door and drawer with you.
  6. Fresh paint needs time to cure, so use the doors and drawers gently at first.

Before fitting day

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
