Loft storage for your home in Canary Wharf

About our loft storage in Canary Wharf

A converted loft often has more storage space than it first seems. Our loft storage includes eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers, wardrobes under sloping ceilings and dormer shelving, each shaped to the room. In Canary Wharf, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. People usually come to us about boxes piled on loft boards and seasonal things cluttering the loft room, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

A large number of homes around Canary Wharf date from 2000 onwards, and in London many homes of that age are flats in newer developments. Where a boiler or cylinder sits in a cupboard, the design keeps the clearances its maker sets out. Shallow cupboards suit narrow halls, so the hallway still feels open.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish.

Fitted storage in Canary Wharf

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Canary Wharf were built since 2000 (about 66%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 16%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The West India Dock Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Canary Wharf. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your street in Canary Wharf joins a main road, it is worth telling us at the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.

The wider area includes historic houses like Queen's House, about 1.8 miles south. If your own home is a period one, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. Close to Sir John McDougall Gardens? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. Near listed buildings like Church of St Matthias, less than half a mile north-east of the centre of Canary Wharf, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

Canary Wharf is about 2 miles west of Whitechapel, part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. We can visit homes in Canary Wharf on weekdays, or on a Saturday by prior arrangement. Our Tower Hamlets coverage includes Canary Wharf, along with the rest of the borough.

In E14, SE16 and E22, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. You’ll find streets here like Castor Lane, Cassilis Road and Dockyard Lane, and homes on each of them are within our area for loft storage. The A1261 runs close to Canary Wharf; on busy main roads, unloading eaves cupboards takes a little planning. We also cover the places around Canary Wharf: London Docklands (1 mile east), Poplar (1 mile north-east), Heron Quays (1 mile south-west), Coldharbour (1 mile east) and Blackwall (1 mile east). Across the rest of Tower Hamlets, our area takes in Whitechapel (2 miles west), Spitalfields (3 miles west), Tower Hill (3 miles west), Bethnal Green (2 miles north-west), Cambridge Heath (3 miles north-west) and Stepney (2 miles north-west).

Why bespoke in Canary Wharf?

Loft walls are rarely straight, and floors are often out of level. Standard furniture leaves visible gaps. We scribe our storage to the slopes and walls, and set it level. Large off-the-shelf pieces can make a small room feel smaller, while fitted furniture, painted in a colour that suits the walls, reads as part of the room.

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It’s useful to talk about parking during the design visit, so we can plan for it.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

What affects the cost of loft storage

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:

  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish

We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote. To arrange a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

What we need to know

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters

Rough measurements are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

Questions we’re often asked

My home in Canary Wharf is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Eaves cupboards are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Does a conservation area in or near Canary Wharf affect fitted furniture?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

What happens at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

How is loft storage priced?

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. The mix of cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and the finish, all play a part. We set it all out in a quote in writing.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Do you do the loft conversion too?

No. We do not carry out loft conversions. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.

Honest limits

It is worth being clear about where our work stops:

  • Electrical work in the loft
  • Anything that needs Building Regulations sign-off
  • Structural changes, such as cutting into rafters or joists

Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can use our contact form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

How fitting day works

You are welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On the day, floors are covered first and the sections brought in. The pieces are levelled and fixed with fixings that suit the wall. Any hand painting can be finished on site.

  1. It starts when you contact us with some details about the loft.
  2. We visit to measure the eaves and slopes and talk through the design, including the headroom under the slope.
  3. You receive a written quote for the storage we’ve discussed.
  4. We make every part in our workshop, cut to the angle of the slope. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We carry it up, fit it and leave it ready to use.

Before we arrive

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
