Loft storage for your home in Poplar
Loft storage in Poplar
Behind an eaves door, there’s often insulation and a need for ventilation. We design the storage so it does not block airflow or crush insulation. If you have concerns about what’s behind the eaves, ask the people who did the conversion. We look at this at the design visit in Poplar. Most enquiries start with seasonal things cluttering the loft room and ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Floors in newer homes are often finished and easy to mark, so we cover them while we work. Around Poplar, many homes date from 2000 onwards, and stud walls there take fixings chosen for the board. Skirting can be scribed around, or the storage can sit on its own plinth.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

Tips worth knowing
None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:
- Check the route up to the loft
- Let us know about parking near your home
- Plan where the tall end of a wardrobe can go
- Make room so the whole loft can be measured
Keep the ventilation behind the eaves clear. The storage is planned to keep airflow, so leave that space open. It helps prevent damp behind the storage.
Every so often, look at the handles and hinges. A loose screw is easy to tighten before it works loose. If something stops working smoothly, send us a few details through our contact form and describe it.
Loft storage for homes in Poplar
In the neighbourhood around Poplar, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 66%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 16%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. 14 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Poplar. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of inner London. For fitting in Poplar, a van usually needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Tell us what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
Near listed buildings like Church of St Matthias, less than half a mile north of the centre of Poplar, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If your children go to Tower Hamlets College or a school nearby, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home.

How fitting works for loft storage
At the end, we tidy up and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Fitting day starts by covering floors and setting out the sections. Each piece is levelled and fixed to suit plasterboard or block. Any hand painting can be finished on site.
- You get in touch with a few details about the loft room, whether it is a converted room or a boarded space.
- We visit to measure and look at what’s behind the knee walls, and talk through the design with you.
- A written quote follows, with the fitting days agreed. You can ask us about any of it.
- We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, cut to the slope, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill, with the doors and drawers checked with you.
Preparing the room
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
Starting with a design visit
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Why bespoke in Poplar?
If you only need a few boxes in a boarded loft, standalone shelving may be enough. Bespoke work makes sense in a converted loft room, where the storage is part of the room. At the design visit, we’ll tell you honestly which approach suits your loft. Ready-made units fixed to stud walls are often held by fixings that don’t suit the board. Built-in pieces are designed with the right fixings from the start, and heavy pieces can stand on the floor.
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
What you get with us

Your questions about loft storage in Poplar
Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in Poplar?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
I live near Canary Wharf station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Can a wardrobe follow a sloping ceiling?
Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, with hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers lower down. It uses the full height of the room. We will work out the layout when we visit.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too.
How is loft storage priced?
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. The size of the room, the amount of storage and the finish all shape the price. For a quote, fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.
Can you convert my loft as well?
No, the conversion itself isn’t our work. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.
Flats, leases and landlords
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan the fitting around them.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you get in touch.
Do you need loft storage in Poplar?
The most common reason is wasted space. The low spaces at the edge of a loft room are hard to use. Cupboards and drawers built into the knee wall put it to work.
Requests we hear often include:
- A dormer that is not being used
- Wasted space behind the knee walls
- A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
- Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs
Close to Bartlett Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.
Choosing a carpenter
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Whether you’ll get a written quote, not just a figure
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
