- Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
Loft storage for your home in Blackwall
What it costs
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- The width and height of the space
There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.
What we need to know
When you contact us, these help most:
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- How you want to use the space
- Your postcode and the borough

How we make loft storage for Blackwall
We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. The conversion itself is not our work, and conversions come under Building Regulations. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. In Blackwall, it all begins with a design visit. We make eaves cupboards from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are needing storage in a loft office and a new loft conversion that needs storage.
Hallways in newer flats and houses are often short, with doors opening off every side, which leaves little wall for storage. Around Blackwall, many homes were built since 2000, so that is worth planning for. Even a shallow run can hold coats and shoes without crowding the doors.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the eaves cupboard we have designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we have measured the way in.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
Fitting day, step by step
When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections made at our workshop, one at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a newer development, the lift, the concierge and set working hours may all need checking, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. Eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the lift and doors.
- You contact us about storage in your converted loft.
- We visit to measure the loft and the way up, including the top flight and any tight turn.
- We send a written quote.
- Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
- The sections go up the stairs, are assembled under the eaves and set level. The finish is sprayed in the workshop or hand-painted in the loft.
Before fitting day
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Let us know about parking near your home
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
Arranging a design visit
If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Is bespoke worth it?
Standalone furniture can move with you, and it may suit a short stay. Fitted storage stays put, and it makes far more of the loft. Which suits you depends on your plans. Separate ready-made pieces can make an open-plan room feel unplanned, whereas fitted furniture can define each part of the room.
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit.

Fitted storage in Blackwall
Homes built since 2000 make up about 80% of the housing in the streets around Blackwall, with about 11% built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. The National Heritage List has 39 entries within half a mile of the centre of Blackwall. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and eaves cupboards can be designed to work around them. In inner London, a large part of the street parking sits inside borough-run controlled parking zones. In Blackwall, a van will usually need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know about parking near your home at the measuring visit.
For an older house near All Saints Church, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards. Close to Bow Creek Ecology Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Balfron Tower, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

Common questions about loft storage
Is parking a problem for fitting in Blackwall?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
Do you cover homes near Canary Wharf station?
Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not usually. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
Do I get to choose the colour?
The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you’ve chosen.
Will the storage fit up my loft stairs?
We make the storage in sections sized for the route. At the design visit, we measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landings. It means a full wardrobe can still reach the room.
Can you convert my loft as well?
No, the conversion itself isn’t our work. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.
