About our TV and media units in Canary Wharf
Cables are the part most people want to hide. We plan cable routes through the unit from the start, with openings and removable panels so you can add or swap leads later. The routes are ours, while any wiring is for your electrician. Most enquiries start with bought furniture that doesn’t suit the room and a tangle of wires behind the TV, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Homes built since 2000 are often open-plan, with the kitchen, dining and living space in one room, and around Canary Wharf many homes date from those years. In a room like that, TV and media units can help separate the sitting area from the kitchen. Finished floors in newer homes mark easily, so they’re covered while we work.
The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the TV unit designed for your room, its materials and its finish.

Is bespoke worth it?
Bought units come in the maker’s finishes. Ours are painted in a colour agreed with you. Large standalone pieces don’t always fit the lift or the hallway, while fitted furniture comes in sections sized for the route. It’s then assembled and fixed in the room.
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
Why choose us
- A spray or hand-painted finish
- Work across the whole of London
- Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight
- Designed for the room you have

Living-room storage in Canary Wharf
About 66% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Canary Wharf went up since 2000, and about 16% between 1973 and 1999, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. The centre of Canary Wharf is within about a quarter of a mile of the West India Dock Conservation Area. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Newer homes are more common around Canary Wharf than across Tower Hamlets: about 66% date from 2000 onwards, against about 45%, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That makes plasterboard stud walls and compact rooms more likely, which shapes the fixings and sizes.
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Matthias, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent. Close to Sir John McDougall Gardens? TV and media units can be arranged to keep the window and the light clear.

Practical tips
Looking after painted furniture is simple. A few things help it stay looking good:
- List every box, console and speaker that needs a home
- Plan any new sockets with your electrician before fitting
- Decide whether the TV will be wall-mounted or stand on the unit
- Think about whether you will upgrade the screen
Doors can settle a little once the unit is in use. Most hinges can be adjusted to bring a door back in line.
Keep heavy speakers and amplifiers on lower shelves.
How fitting day works
With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Stud walls can carry pipes and cables, so we check before drilling, and heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor. Any new sockets or plumbing are for your electrician or plumber, ideally before fitting day.
- You get in touch with details of the room and where it is in your home.
- At the design visit we measure the wall and also the hall, stairs and doorways the unit has to pass through.
- A written quote follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop we make the unit in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We bring the sections in, join them on the wall and scribe them to fit. The finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
How to prepare
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Do you need TV and media units in Canary Wharf?
Upgrading to a bigger screen is a common trigger. The old stand looks too small, or the screen dominates the wall. Shelves and cupboards around the screen make it sit better in the room.
Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:
- Clutter around the TV
- Equipment running hot in a closed cupboard
- A tangle of wires behind the TV
- Nowhere good for speakers
If you live in a period home close to St Peter's Church, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units.
What to check before you book
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- How parking will work on your street
- A written quote that sets out the job
FAQs: TV and media units in Canary Wharf
Can you make TV and media units for a home in Canary Wharf?
Yes, Canary Wharf is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
How do you fit TV and media units in a flat in Canary Wharf?
We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. TV and media units are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
How do I get a quote?
Simply drop us a line using the contact form. Rough sizes and a few pictures help, and we will arrange a design visit.
Do photos help?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. To send them, use our contact form.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room.
Who moves the sockets for a built-in TV wall?
That is a job for your electrician. Ideally it is done before fitting and we design the cable routes around the sockets.
