Loft Storage in Nag's Head

Thinking about loft storage in Nag's Head? We start with a design visit and a quote in writing.

  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
  • A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
  • Space under the eaves going to waste

Loft storage in Nag's Head

Loft storage in Nag's Head: what you get

Behind the short walls at the edge of a loft room, there’s often space going to waste. Eaves cupboards and pull-out drawers built into the knee wall put it to work. Drawers bring the back of the space within reach. We measure and plan for the space you have in Nag's Head. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are unused space in a dormer and a converted loft with no fitted furniture.

Hallways in period terraces are often long and narrow, with the stairs rising along one wall. Around Nag's Head, a large share of homes date from before 1919, so every bit of depth is weighed up when storage is planned. Shallow units keep the way through clear.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Fitted storage in Nag's Head

Homes built before 1919 make up about 52% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Nag's Head, with about 19% built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. 3 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Nag's Head. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Purpose-built flats are home to about 50% of households in the neighbourhood around Nag's Head, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

If your children go to Grafton Primary School or a school nearby, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit. If you live in a period home close to St Joseph and St Padarn's Church, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk. Near listed buildings like Odeon Cinema, less than half a mile north-west of the centre of Nag's Head, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot typically do that in an older room.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

Your questions about loft storage in Nag's Head

Does a conservation area in or near Nag's Head affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

My house in Nag's Head is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.

Will you paint the walls around the furniture?

No. We make, fit and finish the furniture, and plastering and decorating are for other trades. We paint the furniture itself, by spray or by hand.

Do you work outside London?

No. We cover London only: every London borough and the City of London.

Do you cover Nag's Head?

Yes. We cover Nag's Head and the rest of Islington, as part of our work across all London boroughs. To arrange a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

How long does it take to fit loft storage?

The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Because everything is made in our workshop, the work in your home is the fitting itself. We keep the route up to the loft as clear as possible.

When you need someone else

Some parts of a job need another trade, from an electrician to a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here’s what to know:

  • New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician
  • Altering the structure of the loft
  • Converting the loft itself, which isn’t our work

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can send us a few details through our contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What goes into it

  • Birch plywood
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Sloped wardrobe tops

What affects the price in Nag's Head

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • How square the room is
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

What we need to know

There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:

  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Any ideas or images you have saved

To make a start, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us a little about the room. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a written quote follows.

From workshop to your room

On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop. How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a period home, the furniture is fitted to walls that aren’t straight, so there’s some trimming and adjusting on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. It is useful to let us know about parking during the design visit, as terraced streets are often busy.

  1. First you tell us about the loft room and what you’d like to store there, and how you get up to it.
  2. We come to measure the room and the way up to it, and discuss the design.
  3. We send a quote in writing setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make every part in our workshop, cut to the angle of the slope.
  5. We carry it up, fit it and leave it ready to use, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Empty the space we’ll be working in
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

Pull-out drawers

Drawers along the knee wall make a neat, low run of storage. The top can be a surface for books or lamps. We agree the layout at the design visit.

Doors and drawer fronts

Fronts are made from moisture-resistant MDF and painted to your colour. The angled fronts match the ceiling, so the gaps stay even all the way along.
