Loft storage in Ardleigh Green, Havering

Thinking about loft storage in Ardleigh Green? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a quote in writing.

  • Furniture that can’t get up to the loft
  • A dormer that is not being used
  • Wasted space behind the knee walls

Loft storage designed for your room

About our loft storage in Ardleigh Green

The space behind the knee wall usually has insulation and ventilation to think about. Storage shouldn’t block the ventilation or squash the insulation. If anything looks wrong behind the eaves, it’s worth asking whoever converted the loft. We look at this at the measuring visit in Ardleigh Green. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are a new loft conversion that needs storage and no wardrobe that fits under the slope.

Coats, shoes, bags and the vacuum cleaner all need somewhere to go in a family house. Around Ardleigh Green, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses make up a big part of the housing, fitted storage near the front door can take much of it. Meters and fuse boards stay easy to reach.

Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

What happens on fitting day

On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections made in our workshop, a piece at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about your converted or boarded loft, and how you get up to it.
  2. At the design visit we measure the knee walls, slopes and stairs and plan the storage with you, including the headroom under the slope.
  3. You receive a written quote for the storage we’ve discussed.
  4. Your storage is built in our workshop and painted to your chosen colour. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home, scribed to the slopes and the walls.

Ask for a quote

The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To book one, send us a few details through our contact form.

Advice

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit.

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it’s worth raising during the design visit.

Storage in Ardleigh Green homes: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Ardleigh Green were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 46%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 29%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Near the centre of Ardleigh Green, Historic England’s list includes The Royal Liberty School (Grade II*), less than half a mile north-west. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, such as fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your home is on or just off a main road, it is useful to mention it. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

The wider area includes historic houses like Hare Hall, about 0.3 miles north-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. If you live in a period home close to All Saints, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

The problems loft storage solve

A new loft conversion often needs storage to finish it. Standard furniture rarely suits the new room. Fitted storage finishes the room.

Common reasons to get in touch include:

  • Unused space in a dormer
  • Needing storage in a loft office
  • Space under the eaves going to waste
  • Nowhere to store bags and boxes

For a family home near Ardleigh Green Junior School, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
  • Whether you’ll get a written quote, not just a figure
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • How the furniture will be finished, and where

Common questions about loft storage

Can you make loft storage for a home in Ardleigh Green?

Yes, we work across Havering, Ardleigh Green included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details.

I live near Gidea Park station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.

What are your eaves cupboards made from?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives strength to the carcasses and drawers, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.

Will cupboards in the eaves stop air moving?

Not when it is planned well. At the design visit we check what’s there and leave the space it needs. Insulation and ventilation work itself is not ours.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

Looking after your furniture

These points come up often when people plan loft storage. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:

  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Clear the knee-wall spaces before the design visit if you can
  • Plan where the tall end of a wardrobe can go
  • Think about what will go in each cupboard or drawer

A soft, damp cloth is the best way to keep the storage clean. Dry them afterwards, and avoid abrasive pads and strong solvents. The edges around handles are touched most.

Keep the eaves ventilated and avoid pressing things against the back of the space. Squashed insulation works less well. Damp in the eaves is worth raising with the people who did the conversion.
