Loft storage in Leamouth: what you get
Behind the short walls at the edge of a loft room, there’s often space going to waste. Eaves cupboards and pull-out drawers built into the knee wall put it to work. Drawers bring the back of the space within reach. At the design visit in Leamouth, we’ll see what fits. If you are living with nowhere to store bags and boxes and a boarded loft with no proper shelving, that is what eaves cupboards are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Many homes around Leamouth have been built since 2000, and newer homes often have little built-in storage. Halls, landings and the space beneath the stairs are where fitted storage can help. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on timber or metal studs, so the fixings are chosen for that.
Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

How fitting day works
With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Newer homes often have finished floors, painted walls and new doors that mark easily, so everything on the way in is covered before the sections arrive. Corners and door frames are covered as well. The sections are assembled in the room.
- You contact us about storage in your converted loft.
- We visit to measure the loft and the way up, including the top flight and any tight turn.
- A written quote follows, covering the design, materials and finish.
- Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
- The sections go up the stairs, are assembled under the eaves and set level. The finish is sprayed in the workshop or hand-painted in the loft.
Before fitting day
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, fill in our short enquiry form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

What we do not do
Not everything around loft storage is carpentry, like an electrician, a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here is what to bear in mind:
- Approval for structural changes
- Adding or replacing insulation
- Building work to turn a loft into a room
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can fill in our short enquiry form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How it works.
Materials and parts
- Birch plywood
- Sloped wardrobe tops
- Spray-painted finish
- Eaves doors and drawers
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Hand-painted finish
How it’s made
Plinths and scribe strips
The floor in a loft room is rarely perfectly level. We set the storage level on a plinth or adjustable feet, so the doors and drawers run true.
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting can be done on site once the storage is in. It is easy to touch up if it gets marked. That helps in a well-used bedroom.
Your questions about loft storage in Leamouth
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Custom House station?
Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room.
Is Leamouth in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes, Leamouth is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.
What do eaves cupboards cost?
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Drawers in the knee wall usually involve more work than simple cupboards, and the finish matters too. Everything is set out in a quote in writing after the visit.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We will design around them.
Do you carry out loft conversions?
No. We don’t carry out loft conversions. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.
Should I send photos?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them, get in touch through our contact form.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.

Loft storage for homes in Leamouth
In the streets around Leamouth, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 81%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 8%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List records 11 entries within half a mile of the centre of Leamouth. Being near listed buildings does not make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. Newer homes are more common around Leamouth than across Tower Hamlets: about 81% date from 2000 onwards, against about 45%, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Newer homes often have stud walls and compact rooms, so fixings and sizes are planned with that in mind.
Queen's House, about 2.1 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Trinity House Chain Locker and Lighthouse Block, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If you live in a period home close to Church of St Luke, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you contact us.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the design visit.
