Millwall Loft Storage

In Millwall, we design loft storage around the room you actually have. We design your eaves cupboard at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • An empty dormer that could hold shelves
  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope
  • Low eaves that nobody can use

Loft storage for your home in Millwall

Loft storage in Millwall: what you get

Each eaves cupboard is built in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits drawer boxes and carcasses, and MDF gives the doors and panels a smooth surface for paint. It’s then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Millwall. We make eaves cupboards from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a dormer that isn’t being used and ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs.

Many homes around Millwall were built since 2000, and newer houses that have had the loft converted often have sloping ceilings and eaves to use. We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. Elsewhere, fitted storage is fixed to plasterboard walls with fixings that suit it.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and it is what the workshop builds to.

How it is made

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish is smooth and even. We spray in the workshop, so the finish is complete before fitting. The colour is agreed with you.

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF cuts cleanly, which suits the angled panels under a sloping ceiling. We use a moisture-resistant grade, which is stable and takes paint well. Most of what you see is MDF.

From workshop to your room

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Newer homes often have stud walls, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board. Floors are covered while we work, and dust is kept to a minimum.

  1. To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
  2. We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The storage is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly.

How to prepare

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Empty the space we will be working in
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Ask for a quote

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, then send a written quote. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. To book a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Related advice

Do you need loft storage in Millwall?

Boxes, suitcases and seasonal things need a home. Eaves cupboards keep them out of sight. The room stays calm and clear.

Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:

  • Boxes and suitcases with no home
  • Standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs
  • A dormer that isn’t being used
  • Clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom

Queen's House, about 0.9 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even.

What to check before you book

  • Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • A written quote that sets out the job

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Standard furniture does not allow for the insulation and ventilation behind the eaves. We plan the storage around what’s behind the knee wall. It helps keep the space in good order. Newer homes often have compact rooms where standard furniture leaves awkward gaps, while fitted furniture is made to the room. It can also be planned around boxed-in pipes and risers.

Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Tell us about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.

Why choose us

  • Made for your room, not a standard size
  • Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Every London borough and the City of London covered
  • Saturdays by arrangement

Caring for painted furniture

The finish lasts best with a little care. These practical tips help:

  • Count the clothes you will need to hang
  • Note any vents or insulation in the eaves
  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
  • Think about what will go in each cupboard or drawer

When we’ve finished fitting, the cupboards and drawers are ready. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat the new finish gently at first. Keep tape and strong cleaners away from it while it settles.

Do not overfill drawers, as heavy loads strain the runners. It helps to clear out now and then. Keep the heaviest things near the floor.

Common questions about loft storage

How do you fit loft storage in a flat in Millwall?

We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Deptford station?

Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Usually not. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Do you do the loft conversion too?

No. Our work is storage in loft rooms that are already converted, or in boarded lofts. Loft conversions are building work, with Building Regulations to follow. When the room is finished, we can plan the storage.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Loft storage in Millwall: local notes

Homes built since 2000 make up about 52% of the housing in the area around Millwall, with about 24% built between 1973 and 1999, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Part of Millwall is in the Chapel House Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Tower Hamlets included. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Millwall. Access and parking are talked through at the design visit.

If your children go to Harbinger Primary School or a school nearby, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home. Living in a block of flats near Deptford station?
