What we do not do

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work are not part of what we do. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Any work on the structure of the house
  • Building work to turn a loft into a room
  • Adding or replacing insulation

If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

Loft storage for homes in North Greenwich

Loft stairs are often narrow and steep, with tight turns. At the design visit, we measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft, so the sections we make in our workshop can be carried up. It is a step that matters for any loft in North Greenwich. Most enquiries start with a boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised and a loft room that doubles as an office or guest room, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Newer homes often have plain spaces left as they are: a recess beside the stairs, a gap by a window, an empty cupboard. Around North Greenwich, many homes were built since 2000, and fitted storage can make spaces like that far more useful. The layout inside is planned to use the full depth.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, what it is made from and how it’s finished.

Questions we’re often asked

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Greenwich station?

Yes, homes across Tower Hamlets and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room.

I live in a flat in North Greenwich. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we will see what we can do.

How long does it take to fit loft storage?

How long the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The storage is made in our workshop first, so the time in your home is spent fitting. We work tidily and keep the stairs and landing as clear as we can.

What materials do you use for loft storage?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The carcasses and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.

Materials and finishes

Moisture-resistant MDF

A loft room can see more change in temperature than other rooms, so a stable material matters. It takes a spray-painted or hand-painted finish well. It’s used for most of the visible parts.

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting gives the storage a very even surface. It’s applied in our workshop, so treat it gently while it cures fully.

What prompts loft storage in North Greenwich

A boarded loft can be made far more useful with shelving. Shelves and cupboards keep things off the floor and easy to find. It is ideal for things you need now and then.

Loft storage can help with:

  • An empty dormer that could hold shelves
  • A new loft conversion that needs storage
  • A boarded loft with no proper shelving
  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room

Queen's House, about 0.8 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • How parking will work on your street
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?

Is bespoke worth it?

A standalone wardrobe can go with you when you move. Fitted storage stays with the house, and it uses the slopes in a way a standalone piece can’t. The right choice depends on how long you plan to stay. In a newer flat, big flat-pack units can be hard to get into the lift or through the door, while fitted furniture comes in sections sized for the route. The sections are joined and fixed once inside.

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space.

How fitting day works

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it is going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Newer homes often have stud walls, so on fitting day heavy pieces go into the studs or stand on the floor. Floors are covered while we work, and dust is kept to a minimum.

  1. You tell us about the loft room.
  2. We come to measure and go through the design and finish.
  3. A written quote follows.
  4. The storage is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and sprayed there if you chose a spray finish.
  5. We fit it in the loft and check each door and drawer with you.
  6. Fresh paint needs time to cure, so use the doors and drawers gently at first.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Ask for a quote

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Advice

Loft storage in North Greenwich: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around North Greenwich were built since 2000 (about 52%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 24%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The National Heritage List has 21 entries within half a mile of the centre of North Greenwich. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. More than half of the homes in the neighbourhood around North Greenwich (about 52%) were built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. In a newer house with a converted loft, the space under the slopes can be used; we build once the loft is converted or boarded.

If you live in a period home close to Church of St Nicholas, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle. Living in a block of flats near Greenwich station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.
