Fitted home offices for homes in Millwall

The desk is the heart of a home office. It’s made at a height and depth to suit you and the way you work, with drawers or cupboards beneath where they’re useful. Shelves and cupboards can be planned around it. We’ll talk through the details at the design visit in Millwall. Most enquiries start with flimsy shelves that won’t take the weight and a spare room that has to be an office and a guest room; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Some newer homes have a landing or stair space wide enough for a small desk. Around Millwall, many homes were built since 2000. A desk like that suits occasional work, with closed storage to keep it tidy. Cable routes run to the nearest sockets.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

What it costs

Several things affect the price:

  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Doors and drawers, and how many

We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, use our contact form.

What we need to know

There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. It’s enough to send:

  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for

To make a start, get in touch through our contact form and tell us a little about the room and what you want the furniture to do. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a written quote follows.

Questions from Millwall

I live near Deptford station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Tower Hamlets and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room.

Is Millwall in the area you cover for fitted home offices?

Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London, and Millwall is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Typically not. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. Listed buildings can require listed building consent for works that affect their character.

Is it possible to have a desk under the eaves?

Yes, in a loft that’s already converted. We place the desk so you can sit and stand without hitting the slope, with storage built into the lower parts of the slope. The conversion itself isn’t our work.

Can you add power points to the desk?

That is work for your electrician. We plan the furniture around them, with cable routes through the desk and units. They can then be fitted where we have allowed for them.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Let us know about it when you get in touch.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

Practical tips

A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. These practical tips help:

  • List the equipment you use, from screens to printers
  • Choose a calm colour for a working room
  • Note how many files and books you need to store
  • Mention any parking rules on your street

Small marks on a hand-painted finish can be touched in. Keep a note of the colour for later. If anything is not right with the furniture, fill in our short enquiry form and we’ll talk it through.

Don’t overload shelves beyond what they were designed for. Shelves are made for the load you planned. Spread heavy books and files evenly.

How fitting works for fitted home offices

Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Newer homes often have finished floors, painted walls and new doors that mark easily, so we protect the route before carrying anything in. Door frames and corners get covers too. The sections are assembled in the room.

  1. It starts when you contact us about a home office. A line on how you work helps too.
  2. We visit to measure and talk about the equipment you use, and plan where the cables will run.
  3. Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish. You can ask us about any part of it.
  4. We make the desk, shelves and cupboards in our workshop.
  5. The office is fitted and set level, ready for your first day at the desk.

How to prepare

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

Getting a quote

A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, message us from the contact page. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a quote in writing.

If you live in a period home close to Church of St Nicholas, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window. Living in a block of flats near Deptford station? Then home offices are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. How it’s made

Moisture-resistant MDF

Moisture-resistant MDF is stable and takes paint well. It suits doors, drawer fronts and panels, where a smooth, even finish matters.

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting on site lets the office be finished alongside the woodwork around it. It is easy to touch up later. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first.
