Loft storage in Greenwich
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make loft storage for homes in Greenwich, each designed at a visit to your home.
- Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
- An empty dormer that could hold shelves
- A boarded loft with no proper shelving

Fitting day, step by step
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so we protect the route before carrying anything in. Door frames and corners get covers too. Once inside, the pieces are joined in place.
- It starts when you get in touch about storage in your loft.
- At the design visit, we look at the slopes, the eaves and the way up.
- Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish. You can ask us about any of it.
- Your storage is made in our workshop, shaped to the loft.
- We fit it in your home and leave it ready to use.
How to prepare
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
Starting with a design visit
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we have measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

How we make loft storage for Greenwich
Getting furniture up to a loft room is part of the planning. We measure the route as well as the room, so every section made at our workshop fits up the stairs. It is part of the job for any loft room in Greenwich. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a loft room that doubles as an office or guest room and clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom.
A large share of the homes around Greenwich date from 2000 onwards, and in a newer house with a converted loft, the eaves and slopes are worth using. We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. Wherever they go, eaves cupboards are fixed to suit the wall.
After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish.

Bespoke loft storage or ready-made?
Standard furniture doesn’t allow for the insulation and ventilation behind the eaves. Bespoke storage is designed so it doesn’t block ventilation or squash insulation. It helps keep the space in good order. Large standalone pieces don’t always fit the lift or the hallway, whereas fitted furniture is made in sections that fit. It is then assembled and fixed in the room.
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
Why choose us
- A spray or hand-painted finish
- Over 300 projects completed
- Fitted tight to walls that are not straight
- A design visit, then a written quote

Fitted storage in Greenwich
About 36% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Greenwich went up before 1919, and about 35% since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Greenwich, Historic England’s list includes Royal Observatory (Grade I), under half a mile south, and Royal Observatory Flamsteed House (Grade I), less than half a mile south-west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of inner London. For fitting in Greenwich, a van typically needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
The wider area includes historic houses like Queen's House, about 0.2 miles north-west. If your own home is a period one, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle. Living in a block of flats near Maze Hill station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If you live in a period home close to St Mary's Church, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle.
Greenwich is about 3 miles east of Plumstead, within the Royal Borough of Greenwich. We can visit homes in Greenwich on weekdays, or on a Saturday by prior arrangement. Our work takes in places right across the rest of London.
Design visits and fitting in SE10, SE3 and SE8 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. You’ll find streets here such as Cade Road, Webb Road and Creek Road, and homes on each of them are within our area for loft storage. Greenwich is near the A2203 and A2211; on busy main roads, unloading eaves cupboards takes a little planning. If you are just outside Greenwich, we also cover Maze Hill (1 mile north-east), Vanbrugh Park Estate (1 mile east), Blackheath (1 mile south-east), Westcombe Park (1 mile east) and Isle of Dogs (1 mile north-west). We also make loft storage in nearby places like Plumstead (3 miles east), Eltham (3 miles south-east), Woolwich (3 miles east), Well Hall (3 miles south-east), Coldharbour (4 miles south-east) and Charlton (2 miles east).

Pricing loft storage in Greenwich
Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- How square the room is
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
Helping us understand the room
You do not need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
To get a quote, drop us a line using the contact form and let us know which room you have in mind and roughly what you’d like. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and send you a written quote afterwards.
Questions we’re often asked
Do you make loft storage for homes in Greenwich?
Yes. We cover the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Greenwich?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
Do you carry out loft conversions?
No, the conversion itself is not our work. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not usually. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
What if my walls and floors are out of level?
Walls and floors that aren’t true are part of the job in older homes. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base.

Caring for painted furniture
None of this takes much effort. Here’s what we suggest:
- Think about how you’ll reach into the eaves
- Make a list of what you want to store in the eaves
- Empty the eaves so we can see what’s behind
- Think about matching the woodwork or the walls
When we have finished fitting, the cupboards and drawers are ready. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat the new finish gently at first. Avoid sticky tape, heavy knocks and harsh cleaners while it hardens.
Sharp edges and heavy boxes can chip a painted edge. Store tools in a box, not loose against the doors. A small chip on a hand-painted finish is easy to touch in.
What we do not do
Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:
- Building Regulations approval for a conversion
- Altering the structure of the loft
- Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can message us from the contact page and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.
