Fitted home offices in North Greenwich, Tower Hamlets

In North Greenwich, we design fitted home offices around the room you actually have. Your home office is designed at a visit to your home and built in our workshop.

  • An tricky space with no furniture that fits
  • A spare room that has to be an office and a guest room
  • Cables trailing across the desk and floor

Storage keeps a home office calm. Drawers for stationery, cupboards for files and a printer, and shelves for books and folders, so the work surface stays clear. Doors can hide the working things when you are done. We design the storage around your work, wherever you are in North Greenwich. People typically come to us about work things on show in the evening and files and folders piling up; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Many homes around North Greenwich have been built since 2000, and newer homes often have compact second bedrooms that end up as offices. Home offices can be planned to share the room with a guest bed. Stud walls need the right fixings for loaded shelves.

Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

How fitting works for fitted home offices

You won’t need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as we’ll have talked about at the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer homes often have finished floors, painted walls and new doors that mark easily, so everything on the way in is covered before the sections arrive. Door frames and corners get covers too. The sections are assembled in the room.

  1. You let us know how you work and where you’d like the office.
  2. At the design visit, the room is measured and the layout planned. Cable routes are planned at this point.
  3. The design is agreed and a written quote follows.
  4. The office is made at our workshop and painted in your colour.
  5. We fit it in your home and check every drawer and door with you.

Before we arrive

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Ask for a quote

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

What we don’t do

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Building a loft conversion, which isn’t our work
  • Knocking through or opening up rooms
  • Electrical work for the office, which your electrician carries out

If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

What it’s made from

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Filing drawers
  • Cable routes
  • Birch plywood
  • Built-in desks

Flats, leases and landlords

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you contact us.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

Questions from North Greenwich

Will a conservation area stop me having fitted home offices fitted in North Greenwich?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Greenwich station?

Yes, homes across Tower Hamlets and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do photos help?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough sizes. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

How long is the fitting for a home office?

The time the fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Every part is made at our workshop before we arrive. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.

Do I choose the paint colour?

The choice is yours. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room.

Fitted home offices in North Greenwich: local notes

Homes built since 2000 make up about 52% of the housing in the area around North Greenwich, with about 24% built between 1973 and 1999, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. North Greenwich is partly covered by the Chapel House Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your street in North Greenwich joins a main road, it’s worth telling us at the measuring visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

If you live near Mudchute Park and Farm, a desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight. For a family home near Harbinger Primary School, a desk with shelves and closed storage can serve both work and homework.

What prompts fitted home offices in North Greenwich

Some homes have an awkward space that could become an office. Off-the-shelf desks rarely fit these spaces. A built-in desk makes the space useful.

We’re often asked to help with:

  • No proper place to work from home
  • A spare room that has to be an office and a guest room
  • A desk buried under papers
  • Shelves that sag under books and files

If you live in a period home close to Church of St Nicholas, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote

Why bespoke in North Greenwich?

Standard shelving can sag under the weight of books and files. Span, depth and load all matter. Shelves are made to suit the load, with thicker shelves or support where the span is long. Large standalone pieces don’t always fit the lift or the hallway, while fitted furniture comes in sections sized for the route. The sections are joined and fixed once inside.

There’s no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, drop us a line using the contact form.

Why choose us
