Loft storage in Hampstead

Loft storage for homes in Hampstead

A loft room can hold a great deal of storage, if the low spaces are used well. Our loft storage includes eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers, wardrobes under sloping ceilings and dormer shelving, each shaped to the room. In Hampstead, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. We make eaves cupboards from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom and a boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised.

Around Hampstead, a large share of homes date from before 1919, and older houses have lots of odd corners: under the stairs, in the bay, along the hall and under the eaves of a converted loft. That’s where fitted storage comes in.

A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

What it costs

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Spray painting or hand painting

The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

What to send when you contact us

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • The type of home and how the room is reached

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Looking after your furniture

The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. These practical tips help:

  • Look at the insulation and any vents behind the knee wall
  • Clear the knee-wall spaces before the design visit if you can
  • Think about what will go in each cupboard or drawer
  • Tell us about parking during the design visit

Heavy items are best kept in the lower parts of the storage. It helps the runners and keeps the storage working well. Shelves are made for what you told us you’d store.

Leave room for air to move behind the storage. Squashed insulation works less well. Damp in the eaves is worth raising with the people who did the conversion.

Your questions about loft storage in Hampstead

Can you make loft storage for a home in Hampstead?

Yes, Hampstead is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Camden and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, and then we send a quote.

Can you fit loft storage to the uneven walls of an older house in Hampstead?

Yes, that’s normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.

How much does loft storage cost?

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The size of the room, the amount of storage and the finish all shape the price. For a quote, send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Can you convert my loft as well?

No, we build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. A conversion is building work, and Building Regulations apply. When the room is finished, we can plan the storage.

From workshop to your room

The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so eaves cupboards are made in sections sized to get through. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through.

  1. You tell us about the loft room.
  2. We come to measure and go through the design and finish.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in the loft and check each door and drawer with you.
  6. Go easy on new paintwork while it cures; hand-painted surfaces are easy to touch up later.

How to prepare

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager

Ask for a quote

You do not need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form and tell us about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

Advice

When you need someone else

  • Approval for structural changes
  • Electrical work in the loft

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can message us from the contact page and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Fitted storage in Hampstead

About 68% of the homes in the area around Hampstead went up before 1919, and about 9% between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. There are 363 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Hampstead. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Around Hampstead, about 68% of homes date from before 1919, well above the figure for Camden as a whole, about 49%, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). So older-house details are more likely to come into the design of eaves cupboards.

The wider area includes historic houses such as Fenton House, about 0.4 miles north. If your own home is a period one, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. Close to Kilburn Grange Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. If your home is one of the older houses near St John-at-Hampstead church, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.

Hampstead is in the London Borough of Camden, about 3 miles south-east of St Pancras. Homes in Hampstead are part of the area we cover for loft storage. We list Hampstead among 28 places we cover in Camden.

Every home in NW3, NW6, NW11 and N2 is covered for loft storage, from the main roads to the quieter streets. Hampstead sits close to the A1 and A502, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. Other places close to Hampstead include Greenhill (1 mile north-east), West Hampstead (1 mile west), Fortune Green (1 mile west), Vale of Health (1 mile north) and South Hampstead (1 mile south). Across the rest of Camden, our area takes in St Pancras (3 miles south-east), West End (4 miles south-east), St Giles (4 miles south-east), Seven Dials (4 miles south-east), Holborn (4 miles south-east) and Bloomsbury (3 miles south-east). Hampstead is one of the larger places we cover in Camden.

Around Hampstead

We fit furniture in homes around South Hampstead High School, King William IV Public House and Cecil Sharp House, among other places. There’s a railway station in Hampstead itself: Finchley Road & Frognal station. Well-known places in the area include O2 Centre (close by, under half a mile south) and Isokon Gallery (0.8 miles east). For a walk, there’s Belsize Wood and Parliament Hill.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
