Loft storage in Soho
Loft storage for homes in Soho
A dormer can take shelves, a desk or a window seat. Their sides are often angled, and their walls rarely straight. We scribe the furniture to follow them. It uses space that might otherwise be wasted. At the design visit in Soho, we will look at what fits. If your home has a loft room with too many jobs and clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom, eaves cupboards made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.
In streets where many homes were built before 1919, as they were around Soho, under-stairs cupboards in older terraces often house the meters or the fuse board. Those have to stay reachable, so any storage is designed around them. Bays and sash windows in period houses are natural spots for a window seat.
You get the quote in writing, so there is time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Loft storage in Soho: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 49% of the housing in the area around Soho, with about 21% built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. 30 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Soho. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your home in Soho is on or near a main road, tell us during the design visit. We’ll plan where the van can stop.
For a family home near Soho Parish CofE Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. Benjamin Franklin House, about 0.5 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards.
Soho is about 1 mile west of City of Westminster, within the City of Westminster. Anywhere in Soho, it works the same way: we visit and measure, send a written quote, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. In Westminster, Soho is one of the places we cover, and the borough has 29 places on our list.
We make loft storage across the W1F, W1T and W1D postcode area for loft storage. Soho sits close to the A4 and A301. Neighbouring places we cover for loft storage include West End (1 mile east), Chinatown (1 mile south), Seven Dials (1 mile east), St Giles (1 mile north-east) and St James's (1 mile south). Across the rest of Westminster, our area takes in Paddington Green (2 miles west), Paddington (2 miles west), Connaught Village (2 miles west), Lisson Grove (2 miles north-west), Westbourne (3 miles west) and Little Venice (2 miles west). Being one of the larger places in Westminster, Soho is covered for loft storage and everything else we make.

Materials and finishes
Hand-painted finish
Some people prefer a hand-painted finish for its softer look. It is done on site, in the colour you choose. It can match the skirting and doors.
Spray-painted finish
For a crisp, even look, many people choose a spray-painted finish. We apply it in our workshop, and the paint needs time to cure fully once fitted.
Common questions about loft storage
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Tottenham Court Road station?
Yes. We cover all of Westminster and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Do you make loft storage for homes in Soho?
Yes. We cover all of Westminster and the rest of London, and Soho is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and talk through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too.
Do you carry out loft conversions?
No. Our work is storage in loft rooms that are already converted, or in boarded lofts. Loft conversions are building work, with Building Regulations to follow. When the room is finished, we can plan the storage.
What are your eaves cupboards made from?
Our loft storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then painted. Both are stable, which matters in a loft room. Your quote confirms the materials and finish.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it, and it is agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.
What affects the cost of loft storage
To work out the quote, we look at:
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- The overall size of the piece
- How square the room is
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
Helping us understand the room
Some details help us understand the job before we visit. When you contact us, it helps to send:
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- How you want to use the space
- Your postcode and the borough
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
What prompts loft storage in Soho
Boxes, suitcases and seasonal things need a home. Eaves cupboards keep them out of sight. The room stays calm and clear.
Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:
- Boxes piled on loft boards
- Standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs
- A loft room that still feels unfinished
- A loft room with too many jobs
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like House of St Barnabas, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.
Before you choose who makes it
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- How parking will work on your street
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- Whether they measure the room themselves
What happens on fitting day
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.
- You let us know about your converted or boarded loft.
- We measure the eaves, the slopes and the stairs up to the loft.
- We agree the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and send a quote in writing.
- Every part is made at our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
- The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you.
Preparing the room
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Empty the space we will be working in
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
How to get a quote
The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit for you to look over. To arrange the visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Advice
Practical tips
A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:
- Let us know about parking near your home
- Count the clothes you’ll need to hang
- Note the things that need a home in the loft
- Choose a calm colour for the loft
Do not pack things so tightly that air can’t move behind the knee wall. Leave the gaps we have designed in. It helps prevent damp behind the storage.
Check now and then that handles and hinges are tight. Tightening early stops a small looseness getting worse. If something stops working smoothly, tell us about the room on our contact form and describe it.
