  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
  • A boarded loft with no proper shelving

Need loft storage in Staples Corner?

When you need someone else

Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we don’t do:

  • Any wiring, which needs an electrician
  • Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves
  • Converting the loft itself, which is not our work

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.

What it’s made from

  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

Loft storage in Staples Corner: what you get

A dormer can take shelves, a desk or a window seat. Dormers have their own shapes, and walls that are seldom square. Each piece is scribed to the dormer. It adds storage without taking up the main floor. We will go through the options in Staples Corner. If you are living with wasted space behind the knee walls and nowhere to store bags and boxes, eaves cupboards made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.

An interwar house tends to have truer walls than a Victorian one, though rarely square corners. Much of the housing around Staples Corner is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so we still scribe every piece to the wall. Lids, doors and drawers are set level on site so they run true.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Staples Corner homes and loft storage

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Staples Corner were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 38%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 19%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Staples Corner include Church of St John (Grade II), about 0.6 miles north-west. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Barnet is no exception. Where a street in Staples Corner is controlled, a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension from the council. Let us know what the parking is like during the design visit.

If your children go to Parkfield Primary School or a school nearby, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. Close to Clarefield Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

Do you need loft storage in Staples Corner?

A loft room used as an office or guest room often needs storage too. Storage in the eaves leaves the main floor clear.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • Wasted space behind the knee walls
  • Needing storage in a loft office
  • Standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs
  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room

The wider area includes historic houses like Heath House, about 2.2 miles east. If your own home is a period one, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

From workshop to your room

With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. Elsewhere in the house, the route is normally more generous. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.

  1. You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
  2. At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the design, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
  5. We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Preparing the room

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Getting a quote

A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. To send them, use our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a quote in writing.

Advice

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

A ready-made cupboard pushed into the eaves can block airflow. We plan the storage around what’s behind the knee wall. It helps keep the space in good order. In an extended or opened-up house, old and new walls often meet slightly out of line, and straight-sided ready-made units make that obvious. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Questions from Staples Corner

Does a conservation area in or near Staples Corner affect fitted furniture?

Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

I live near Brent Cross West station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Barnet and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

How much does loft storage cost?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The mix of cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and the finish, all play a part. Everything is set out in a written quote after the visit.

What happens at the design visit?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and talk through the design with you. We will also ask about access and parking.

Do you do the loft conversion too?

No. We don’t carry out loft conversions. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.

What are your eaves cupboards made from?

Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Stable materials suit a loft, where temperatures can vary. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
