Loft Storage in Tyburn
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make loft storage for homes in Tyburn, each designed at a visit to your home.
- A loft room that still feels unfinished
- Boxes piled on loft boards
- Furniture that can’t get up to the loft
Need loft storage in Tyburn?
The problems loft storage solve
A new loft conversion often needs storage to finish it. Standard furniture rarely suits the new room. Storage made for the slopes completes it.
Here’s what loft storage can help with:
- Furniture that cannot get up to the loft
- Clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom
- Boxes piled on loft boards
- Boxes and suitcases with no home
If you live in a period home close to Church of the Annunciation, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle.
Before you hire any carpenter
- A quote in writing that sets out the job
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
About our loft storage in Tyburn
Getting furniture up to a loft room is part of the planning. We measure the route as well as the room, so every section made in our workshop fits up the stairs. It is a step that matters for any loft in Tyburn. If you’re living with a boarded loft with no proper shelving and space under the eaves going to waste, that’s what eaves cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Ceilings and floors in homes built before 1919 are rarely level, and a large share of the homes around Tyburn date from then. Eaves cupboards are scribed to the walls and levelled on site so doors, lids and drawers run true. Original skirting and mouldings are met neatly, and the paint colour is agreed with you.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, what it is made from and how it’s finished, and it is what the workshop builds to.

Is bespoke worth it?
A standalone wardrobe can go with you when you move. Fitted storage stays put, and it makes far more of the loft. The right choice depends on how long you plan to stay. Ready-made pieces are proportioned for newer homes and can look lost in an older one, while fitted furniture can follow the room’s own lines.
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space.

Caring for painted furniture
People planning loft storage often ask about these. They help before and after fitting:
- Think about matching the woodwork or the walls
- Think about how you will reach into the eaves
- Think about hanging space for a loft bedroom
- Find out what’s behind the eaves, from insulation to vents
Don’t pack things so tightly that air cannot move behind the knee wall. Leave the gaps we’ve designed in. It helps keep the loft in good order.
Sharp edges and heavy boxes can chip a painted edge. Put tools in a case so they do not knock the paint. A small chip on a hand-painted finish is easy to touch in.
When is bespoke worth it?
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Fitted storage in Tyburn
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Tyburn were built before 1919 (about 50%) and since 2000 (about 15%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. There are 350 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Tyburn. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. About 50% of homes in the area around Tyburn were built before 1919, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Many older terraces have had loft conversions, leaving eaves spaces and slopes that suit fitted storage; we build storage once the loft is converted or boarded.
The wider area includes historic houses like Handel Hendrix House, about 0.8 miles east. For a period home anywhere nearby, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards. Close to Hyde Park? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

FAQs: loft storage in Tyburn
Can you fit loft storage to the uneven walls of an older house in Tyburn?
Yes, that’s normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to London Paddington station?
Yes. We cover all of Westminster and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details about the room.
What are your eaves cupboards made from?
The storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The carcasses and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, and MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.
How long will the loft storage fitting take?
The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, so the time at your home is spent fitting. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.
Do you do the electrics?
No. We are carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.
Can you convert my loft as well?
No. Our work is storage in loft rooms that are already converted, or in boarded lofts. Loft conversions are building work, with Building Regulations to follow. Once your loft is converted, we can design the storage.
What happens on fitting day
You are welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so it’s useful to let neighbours know about fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

- A written quote follows, with the design, materials and finish.
- The storage is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
- We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
