How we make loft storage for Westminster

We make each eaves cupboard in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits drawer boxes and carcasses, and MDF gives the doors and panels a smooth surface for paint. It’s then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Westminster. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are no wardrobe that fits under the slope and furniture that can’t get up to the loft.

When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made in our workshop come in next, a piece at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.

  1. First you tell us about the loft room and what you’d like to store there.
  2. We visit to measure the eaves and slopes and go through the design.
  3. You receive a written quote for the storage we’ve discussed.
  4. We make every part in our workshop, cut to the angle of the slope. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We carry it up, fit it and leave it ready to use.

How our quotes work

How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Loft storage for homes across Westminster

Across Westminster, including City of Westminster, Marylebone and Soho, most homes have a corner or recess that could do more. It could be beneath the stairs, in a window bay, in a hallway or in the eaves. Eaves cupboards are designed for the space as it is.

Homes built before 1919 make up about 49% of the housing in Westminster, with about 15% built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. About 49% of homes in Westminster were built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Many older terraces have had loft conversions, leaving eaves spaces and slopes that suit fitted storage. Purpose-built flats are home to about 70% of households in Westminster, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. For a flat, eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.

Since August 2023, the Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London, and red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping, so access to homes in Westminster is planned in advance.

City of Westminster: The wider area includes historic houses like Handel Hendrix House, about 0.3 miles east. For a period home anywhere nearby, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. Near listed buildings like Church of St Mark's, under half a mile south of the centre of City of Westminster, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

What it is made from

Spray-painted finish

For a crisp, even look, many people choose a spray-painted finish. We apply it in our workshop, so treat it gently while it cures fully.

Pull-out drawers

Drawers that pull out make the eaves easy to use. Everything is in view when the drawer is open. We plan them around any access the eaves need.

What affects the cost of loft storage

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:

  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish

There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing. To arrange a design visit, message us from the contact page.

Helping us understand the room

When you contact us, these help most:

  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you’re ready, tell us about the room on our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s quick to buy.

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check at the design visit.

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you get in touch.

Why people ask for loft storage in Westminster

Some people want to hide clutter in the eaves. Eaves cupboards keep them out of sight. It keeps the room tidy.

Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:

  • Low eaves that nobody can use
  • A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
  • Needing storage in a loft office

Common questions about loft storage

Do you carry out loft conversions?

No, we build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. Loft conversions are building work, with Building Regulations to follow. Once your loft is converted, we can design the storage.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.

Do you cover areas outside London?

No. We cover London only: all 32 boroughs and the City of London.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.

Will cupboards in the eaves stop air moving?

A good design avoids that. We look behind the knee wall at the measuring visit and plan the storage so air can still move. We don’t alter insulation or vents.

Do you make the furniture yourselves?

It is made at our workshop, to the design and sizes agreed after the design visit. After that, we fit it in your home.

Will the storage fit up my loft stairs?

We measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft room. Each section is made to fit the narrowest point, and then assembled in the loft.
