Loft storage for homes in Connaught Village

Each eaves cupboard is made in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives the carcasses and drawers their strength, while MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. Once painted, by spray or by hand, it’s carried up and fitted in your home in Connaught Village. If you are living with standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs and nowhere to store bags and boxes, eaves cupboards made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

With most households around Connaught Village in purpose-built flats, mansion blocks and modern developments are both possible. Mansion block flats often have long hallways, bays and high ceilings that suit fitted storage, while newer flats tend to have compact halls and boxed-in services. If you have a maisonette or duplex, the stairs can take storage too.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

In a loft room, walls and floors are seldom square. Ready-made pieces show the gaps. We scribe our storage to the slopes and walls, and set it level. Off-the-shelf furniture is sized for an average room, and flats are rarely average, leaving gaps or crowding a door or radiator. Fitted furniture is planned around those.

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan for it.

What prompts loft storage in Connaught Village

Boxes, suitcases and seasonal things need a home. Eaves cupboards keep them out of sight. It keeps the room tidy.

A few of the things people ask us to solve include:

  • An empty dormer that could hold shelves
  • A new loft conversion that needs storage
  • Wasted space behind the knee walls
  • A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe

Close to Hyde Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work

Common questions about loft storage

Does a conservation area in or near Connaught Village affect fitted furniture?

Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Can you make loft storage for a home in Connaught Village?

Yes, Connaught Village is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Westminster and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.

Which materials go into your loft storage?

Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Both are stable, which matters in a loft room. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Can you build a wardrobe under a sloping ceiling?

Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, with hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers lower down. It uses the full height of the room. We plan it at the design visit.

Will the storage fit up my loft stairs?

Every piece is made in sections that fit up the stairs. At the design visit, we measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landings. That way, even a large wardrobe can reach the loft.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We’ll design around them.

How fitting day works

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it sits neatly against the room. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Noise from drilling travels in a block, so neighbours may appreciate a note, and some buildings set hours for noisy work. Fitting day is planned around any rules your building has. Saturday work is by arrangement where the building permits it.

  4. Everything is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
