Loft storage in Mayfair
Questions from Mayfair
How do you fit loft storage in a flat in Mayfair?
At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. Eaves cupboards are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
I live near Bond Street station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Westminster and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.
How long does it take to fit loft storage?
How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Every part is made at our workshop before we arrive. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.
Can I send photos ahead of the visit?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Do you do the loft conversion too?
No. Our work is storage in loft rooms that are already converted, or in boarded lofts. A conversion is building work, and Building Regulations apply. When the room is finished, we can plan the storage.
How we make loft storage for Mayfair
The space behind the knee wall typically has insulation and ventilation to think about. We design the storage so it doesn’t block airflow or crush insulation. If anything looks wrong behind the eaves, it is worth asking whoever converted the loft. We look at this during the design visit in Mayfair. Typical reasons to get in touch are unused space in a dormer and a new loft conversion that needs storage, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Around Mayfair, a large share of homes date from before 1919, and houses of that age are full of tricky spaces: the space under the stairs, the bay at the front, the alcoves, the hallway recesses and, where the loft has been converted, the eaves. That’s where fitted storage comes in, scribed to walls that are rarely straight.
Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Loft storage in Mayfair: local notes
In the streets around Mayfair, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 51%) and the years since 2000 (about 20%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Near the centre of Mayfair, Historic England’s list includes Naval and Military Club (Grade I), under half a mile south, and Church of St Mark's (Grade I), less than half a mile north-west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Purpose-built flats are home to about 75% of households in the streets around Mayfair, according to Census 2021. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.
If you live in a period home close to Grosvenor Chapel, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. The wider area includes historic houses like Handel Hendrix House, about 0.2 miles north. If your own home is a period one, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.

From workshop to your room
In older rooms, the furniture typically has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it sits neatly against the room. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.
- To begin, fill in our short enquiry form; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
- We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
- Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
- In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
- On fitting day the units are set level and scribed to the slope and the knee wall, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Arranging a design visit
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To send them over, message us from the contact page, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Spray-painted finish
A spray-painted finish is smooth and even. It is done in our workshop before fitting. The colour is agreed with you.
Pull-out drawers
Drawers that pull out make the eaves easy to use. You see everything at once. They’re designed around any access points behind the knee wall.
Why people ask for loft storage in Mayfair
Some people want to hide clutter in the eaves. Eaves cupboards keep them out of sight. It keeps the room tidy.
Requests we hear often include:
- Wasted space behind the knee walls
- A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
- Boxes and suitcases with no home
- Boxes piled on loft boards
Close to Green Park? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.
What to check before you book
- Where they’ll park and unload
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Will the quote be in writing?
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Bespoke loft storage or ready-made?
Ready-made wardrobes and cupboards are built for standard rooms. Under a slope, it leaves large gaps and wasted space. Bespoke storage follows the angle of the ceiling and fills the knee wall. It’s a bigger investment, and the gain is the space it uses. Tall standalone furniture needs fixing back to the wall so it can’t tip, and in an older house that can mean fixing into brick or lath and plaster. Fitted furniture is designed with the wall in mind.
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, then set it out in the quote.
