Loft storage in Underhill, Barnet

For homes in Underhill, we make loft storage from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Each piece is finished by spray or by hand, in the colour you choose.

  • A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
  • An empty dormer that could hold shelves
  • Nowhere to store bags and boxes

Loft storage for your home in Underhill

Before and after fitting day

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Note how narrow the loft stairs are
  • Mention any parking rules on your street
  • Choose a calm colour for the loft
  • Find out what’s behind the eaves, from insulation to vents

Keep the ventilation behind the eaves clear. The storage is planned to keep airflow, so leave that space open. It helps prevent damp behind the storage.

Don’t overfill drawers, as heavy loads strain the runners. It is useful to clear out now and then. Keep the heaviest things near the floor.

Loft storage in Underhill: what you get

Dormers are a natural place for shelving or a small desk. Their sides are often angled, and their walls rarely straight. Each piece is scribed to the dormer. It adds storage without taking up the main floor. At the design visit in Underhill, we will look at what fits. People usually come to us about unused space in a dormer and ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Across London, neighbouring streets can be decades apart in age, and so do the awkward corners, from bays and stairs to halls and eaves. Eaves cupboards are designed for the space you have. Any meters, fuse boards or boilers stay accessible.

We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Off-the-shelf furniture is made for straight walls and full-height ceilings. In a loft room, standard pieces leave tricky gaps under the slope. Bespoke storage follows the angle of the ceiling and fills the knee wall. It costs more than off-the-shelf furniture, and what you gain is the space a standard piece can’t reach. Standard units come with shelves and rails where the maker put them, which may not suit what you need to store. Fitted furniture is laid out inside around your things.

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. Tell us about parking at the measuring visit.

What affects the price in Underhill

There is no set price, because there’s no set room. The things that affect it are:

  • The overall size of the piece
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Getting in touch

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • How you want to use the space
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing. To book one, get in touch through our contact form.

Your questions about loft storage in Underhill

Is Underhill in the area you cover for loft storage?

Yes. Underhill is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Barnet and London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to New Barnet station?

Yes, homes across Barnet and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do you carry out loft conversions?

No, the conversion itself isn’t our work. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.

Can I send photos ahead of the visit?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?

Walls and floors that are not true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so it sits tight to the room.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We’ll design around them.

Underhill homes and loft storage

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Underhill were built before 1919 (about 24%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 24%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The National Heritage List records 13 entries within half a mile of the centre of Underhill. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your street in Underhill joins a main road, it’s worth telling us at the measuring visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

If you live near Highlands Gardens, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. For a flat near New Barnet station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. For families living near St Catherine's RC School, eaves cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit.

Honest limits

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:

  • Any wiring, which needs an electrician
  • Altering the structure of the loft
  • Adding or replacing insulation

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can fill in our short enquiry form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Materials and parts

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Birch plywood
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Sloped wardrobe tops

How fitting day works

You won’t need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as we’ll have talked about at the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We measure the hall, stairs, doors and any lift not just the room, so eaves cupboards arrive in sections that fit through. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. You get in touch with some details about the loft room.
  2. At the design visit, we look at the slopes, the eaves and the way up, and go through the design with you.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the fitting days agreed.
  4. Your storage is made in our workshop, shaped to the loft.
  5. The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill, with the doors and drawers checked with you.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
