Loft Storage in Westcombe Park
Eaves cupboards, drawers and wardrobes in converted lofts, for homes in Westcombe Park. Every piece is made at our workshop and fitted in your home, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
- Space under the eaves going to waste
- Boxes and suitcases with no home
- Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs
Loft storage designed for your room
From workshop to your room
The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Fitting day starts by covering floors and setting out the sections. The pieces are levelled and fixed with fixings that suit the wall. Hand-painted finishes can be completed once the furniture is in.
- It starts when you get in touch about storage in your loft, whether it’s a converted room or a boarded space.
- At the design visit, we look at the slopes, the eaves and the way up.
- A quote in writing follows, with the fitting days agreed.
- We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, cut to the slope, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit it in your home and leave it ready to use, with the doors and drawers checked with you.
How to prepare
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance

Loft storage in Westcombe Park
We make each eaves cupboard in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits drawer boxes and carcasses, and MDF gives the doors and panels a smooth surface for paint. It is then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Westcombe Park. People typically come to us about boxes piled on loft boards and low eaves that nobody can use; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
A large share of the homes around Westcombe Park date from 2000 onwards, and in a newer house with a converted loft, the eaves and slopes are worth using. We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. Wherever they go, eaves cupboards are fixed to suit the wall.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

Materials and finishes
Moisture-resistant MDF
MDF cuts cleanly, which suits the angled panels under a sloping ceiling. The grade we use is moisture-resistant and paints well. Most of what you see is MDF.
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be applied once the storage is in place. It’s easy to touch up later. Like any new paint, it needs time to cure fully.

What else we make in Westcombe Park
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.
Flats, leases and landlords
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you contact us.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot advise on your lease.
Your questions about loft storage in Westcombe Park
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Westcombe Park?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
I live near Westcombe Park station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Greenwich and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, but it is useful to be around at the end.
Does eaves storage affect the insulation?
It shouldn’t, if it’s designed properly. The storage is planned around the insulation and ventilation behind the knee wall. For worries about existing insulation or vents, ask the people who did the conversion.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and discuss the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
Storage in Westcombe Park homes: local notes
In the streets around Westcombe Park, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 37%) and the years since 2000 (about 37%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Westcombe Park is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. Where a home in Westcombe Park is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that at the measuring visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
Queen's House, about 1 mile west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. Close to East Greenwich Pleasaunce? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. Near listed buildings like East Greenwich Library, under half a mile north-west of the centre of Westcombe Park, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Practical tips
A little care keeps the finish looking good. These practical tips help:
- Empty the eaves so we can see what’s behind
- Think about how you’ll reach into the eaves
- Look at the insulation and any vents behind the knee wall
- Plan where the tall end of a wardrobe can go
Once the fitting is done, the storage is ready to use. New paintwork takes time to cure fully, so go easy on it to begin with. Avoid sticky tape, heavy knocks and harsh cleaners while it hardens.
Keep sharp or very heavy items away from the painted fronts. Put tools in a case so they don’t knock the paint. A small chip on a hand-painted finish is easy to touch in.
