Loft storage in Eltham
About our loft storage in Eltham
We make each eaves cupboard in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits drawer boxes and carcasses, while MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. It is then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Eltham. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are space under the eaves going to waste and clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom.
Many post-war homes have a boiler in a hall, kitchen or landing cupboard. Any new cupboard around it keeps the clearances its manufacturer sets out. With many homes around Eltham built between 1945 and the early 1970s, we look for boilers, meters and fuse boards at the design visit. Any boiler work is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register.
Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Bespoke loft storage or ready-made?
Off-the-shelf furniture is made for straight walls and full-height ceilings. In a loft room, standard pieces leave tricky gaps under the slope. Bespoke storage follows the angle of the ceiling and fills the knee wall. It’s a bigger investment, and the gain is the space it uses. Skirting boards stop standalone furniture sitting flat against the wall, and that gap catches dust and wastes depth. Built-in pieces sit tight to the wall, scribed over the skirting.
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Boards, parts and paint
Spray-painted finish
A spray-painted finish works well on every part of the storage. It is carried out in the workshop for an even coat. The colour is your choice.
Hand-painted finish
Some people prefer a hand-painted finish for its softer look. It is done on site, in the colour you choose. It can match the skirting and doors.
Questions from Eltham
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Eltham?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
Is Eltham in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes. Eltham is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Greenwich and London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Does eaves storage affect the insulation?
Not when it’s planned well. We look behind the knee wall during the design visit and plan the storage so air can still move. Insulation and ventilation work itself isn’t ours.
Do photos help?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a written quote follows.
Can you convert my loft as well?
No. We do not carry out loft conversions. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.
What happens on fitting day
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Stairwells in post-war blocks can have tight turns, so sections are sized for both the stairs and any lift. Where the building has a caretaker or managing agent, it helps to tell them before fitting day. We cover the floors in shared areas on the way in.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it at the measuring visit.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you contact us.
Eltham homes and loft storage
In the area around Eltham, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 40%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 28%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Part of Eltham is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. All of London, Greenwich included, is inside the ULEZ. Vans bringing furniture to Eltham fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Access and parking are talked through at the design visit.
For families living near St Thomas More Catholic Comprehensive School, eaves cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit. Close to Horn Park? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

Is it time for loft storage?
Many people get in touch once their loft conversion is complete. Standard furniture rarely suits the new room. Storage made for the slopes completes it.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- Clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom
- A dormer that is not being used
- Nowhere to store bags and boxes
- A boarded loft with no proper shelving
Eltham Palace, about 0.4 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.
