Loft storage across Greenwich: what to expect
Loft stairs are often narrow and steep, with tight turns. We measure the route along with the room itself, so the sections we make in our workshop can be carried up. It’s a step that matters for any loft in Greenwich. Most enquiries start with a loft room with too many jobs and wasted space behind the knee walls; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard.
- You let us know about your converted or boarded loft.
- At the design visit, the room and the route up are measured.
- The design is agreed and a quote in writing follows, with the finish set out.
- Every part is made at our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. It’s made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you.
What affects the price in Greenwich
Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, which we write after seeing the room.

To make a start, message us from the contact page and tell us a little about the room. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.

Tricky spaces in homes across Greenwich
Across Greenwich, flats and conversions rarely come with enough storage. Well-planned eaves cupboards can add storage while keeping the room usable, with sections sized for the stairs and lift.
The biggest shares of homes in Greenwich were built since 2000 (about 26%) and before 1919 (about 22%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. A quarter or more of the homes in Greenwich (about 26%) were built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. In a newer house with a converted loft, the space under the slopes can be used; we build once the loft is converted or boarded. Purpose-built flats are home to about 43% of households in Greenwich, based on Census 2021. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.
Controlled parking zones cover large parts of London, so a van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit.
Plumstead: The wider area includes historic houses such as Danson House, about 2.7 miles south-east. If your own home is a period one, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle. If you live in a flat close to Plumstead station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.
Flats, conversions and lettings
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you contact us.
If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
What we don’t do
It is useful to know what’s outside our work before you plan:
- Loft conversions, which we don’t carry out
- Any wiring, which needs an electrician
- Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves
Boards, parts and paint
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is made in layers, which makes it strong and stable. It goes into the carcasses, the shelves and the drawers, with the edge either shown or painted.
Spray-painted finish
A spray-painted finish works well on every part of the storage. We do it in our workshop, where the finish can be kept even. The colour is your choice.
Pricing loft storage in Greenwich
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- How many doors and drawers there are
- The internal fittings
Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Let us know about parking at the design visit.
What to send when you contact us
Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- How you want to use the space
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Where you live, with the postcode
Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
Tips worth knowing
Most of what helps is simple. Here’s what we suggest:
- Choose a calm colour for the loft
- Note how narrow the loft stairs are
- Note the things that need a home in the loft
- Empty the eaves so we can see what’s behind
A soft, damp cloth is the best way to keep the storage clean. Dry them afterwards, and avoid abrasive pads and strong solvents. Handles and drawer edges pick up marks first.
Keep sharp or very heavy items away from the painted fronts. Store tools in a box, not loose against the doors. A small chip on a hand-painted finish is easy to touch in.
Common questions about loft storage
Can I send photos ahead of the visit?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you fill in our short enquiry form.
Do you cover areas outside London?
No. We work in London and nowhere else.
How do you get large pieces into a loft?
Measuring the route is part of the design visit. Each section is made to fit the narrowest point, and then assembled in the loft.
Can you convert my loft as well?
No, we build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. Loft conversions are building work, with Building Regulations to follow. When the room is finished, we can plan the storage.
Will eaves storage block the ventilation?
It shouldn’t, if it’s designed properly. The storage is planned around the insulation and ventilation behind the knee wall. For worries about existing insulation or vents, ask the people who did the conversion.
How much does loft storage cost?
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. The size of the room, the amount of storage and the finish all shape the price. To get a quote, send us a few details through our contact form and we’ll arrange a design visit.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.
