TV and media units in Bickley: what you get
Where the TV will be wall-mounted, the unit is designed around where the bracket goes and the cable route behind it. If the TV stands on the unit instead, the top is sized and positioned for it, with the cables kept out of sight. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about wasted space around the screen and equipment with nowhere proper to go.
In a part of London with mixed housing, like much of the city, living rooms can be very different from one street to the next. You might have alcoves, a bay, a wide open-plan room or a compact one. TV and media units are designed for the room in Bickley that you have, and long shelves are sized not to sag.
The furniture is built in our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
More for homes in Bickley
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Standalone TV units cost less and arrive quickly. A stand is also simple to swap when technology moves on. Bespoke units are made for one wall and the things you use. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a recess, a slope or an odd corner, and most homes have at least one. Built-in pieces are made to fit them.
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

The problems TV and media units solve
Some want the TV to sit better in a period room. A built-in unit around the chimney breast lets it sit more quietly, rather than the focus of it.
TV and media units can help with:
- Boxes with no ventilation
- A TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall
- Set-top boxes stacked on a stand
- A TV that looks out of place in the room
Close to Jubilee Country Park? A room that looks out on trees deserves a design that leaves the window alone.
What to check before you book
- Whether you will get a written quote, not just a figure
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- How parking will work on your street
Fitting day, step by step
Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Whatever the age of your home, the furniture is fitted to the walls you have, scribed where walls bow and levelled where floors slope. Hand painting can happen on site, while spray-painted pieces come ready from the workshop.
- It starts with a short note from you about the TV wall.
- We visit to plan the unit and check the way in.
- We send a quote in writing.
- In our workshop we make the unit in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We bring the sections in, join them on the wall and scribe them to fit. The finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
Preparing the room
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

FAQs: TV and media units in Bickley
I live near Bickley station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Bromley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Is Bickley in the area you cover for TV and media units?
Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London, and Bickley is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Do photos help?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Normally not. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings can need listed building consent for works that affect their character.
Does the unit work if the TV is on a bracket?
Where the TV is to be wall-mounted, we plan the unit around the bracket, with a route for the cables. The wall needs to be sound for the bracket, which we look at during the design visit.
Who moves the sockets for a built-in TV wall?
That is a job for your electrician. Ideally it is done before fitting and we design the cable routes around the sockets.
Living-room carpentry in Bickley: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Bickley were built before 1919 (about 33%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 25%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. The Bickley Park Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Bickley. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Bromley sets its own rules. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Parking near your home is worth mentioning at the measuring visit.
If you live in a period home close to Church of St George, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place. The wider area includes historic houses like Bromley Palace, about 1.1 miles west. For a period home anywhere nearby, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at.

How it is made
Spray-painted finish
Spray painting is done in the workshop, giving a smooth, even surface.
Moisture-resistant MDF
MDF has no grain to show through, so a painted TV unit looks calm and even. The moisture-resistant grade is our choice.
