TV and media units in Heron Quays
TV and media units for homes in Heron Quays
In many period living rooms, the chimney breast and its two alcoves shape the whole wall. Cupboards and shelves in the alcoves can hold the boxes, speakers and books. We keep any vent in the chimney breast clear. We make TV and media units from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about equipment with nowhere proper to go and a TV that looks out of place in the room.
Internal walls in newer homes are normally plasterboard on metal or timber studs, and the board will not carry a heavy load on its own. Around Heron Quays, where many homes were built since 2000, that shapes how TV and media units are fixed: tall units stand on the floor and are tied into the studs, and shelves use fixings made for the board where there is no stud.
We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Common questions about TV and media units
Can you make TV and media units for a home in Heron Quays?
Yes, we work across Tower Hamlets, Heron Quays included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Heron Quays?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.
How is the price worked out?
Every job is priced for its room: size, internal fittings, the finish and how tricky the walls are all play a part. You will get a written quote once we have measured up.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.
How long are you in the house for fitting?
The time on site depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We’ll explain what fitting day involves before we start.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you contact us.
What we don’t do
Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:
- Structural changes to the wall
- Plastering or decorating around the unit
- New sockets behind the TV, which need an electrician
If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.
What it is made from
- Cable routes
- Birch plywood
- Hand-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Spray-painted finish
- Ventilated cabinets
Looking after your furniture
These points come up often when people plan TV and media units. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:
- Note which boxes need line of sight for their remotes
- Measure your TV, or the size you expect to buy next
- Talk to your electrician early about sockets
- Mention parking and stairs when we visit
Dust collects around equipment and vents, so a quick clean now and then helps. It keeps air moving.
Do not stack boxes on top of each other in one space because heat builds up between them. Each one needs space around it.

Fitting day, step by step
Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Stud walls can carry pipes and cables, so we check before drilling, and heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor. Other trades handle any new sockets or plumbing, ideally before fitting day.
- It starts with a short note from you about the TV wall.
- We visit to plan the unit and check the way in. Let us know about parking too, since a van may need a visitor permit or a paid bay.
- A quote in writing follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- The unit is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
- The sections are carried in, assembled and set level, ready for your equipment. The finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
Preparing the room
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it is worth raising at the measuring visit.
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Living-room storage in Heron Quays
In the streets around Heron Quays, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 68%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 16%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Heron Quays include Church of St Matthias (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles north-east, and Fitch and Sons Works (Grade II), under half a mile north-west. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, can need listed building consent from the council. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of inner London. In Heron Quays, a van will normally need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know about parking near your home at the measuring visit.
Living in a block of flats near Canary Wharf station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. Close to Sir John McDougall Gardens? TV and media units can be planned to frame a window with a view rather than block it. The wider area includes historic houses like Queen's House, about 1.7 miles south-east. If your own home is a period one, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place.

How we price TV and media units
We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- How square the room is
There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, message us from the contact page.
Helping us understand the room
Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Any ideas or images you have saved
- How you want to use the space
You do not need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit. To arrange it, fill in our short enquiry form and let us know about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.
