Flats, leases and landlords
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, as it makes good use of an tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
About our TV and media units in City of Westminster
In many period living rooms, the chimney breast and its two alcoves shape the whole wall. The alcoves can take cupboards for equipment and shelves above. Any chimney vent is kept clear. We make TV and media units from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are speakers muffled behind doors and standard units leaving gaps.
Rooms in houses from before 1919 tend to have generous ceiling heights, and around City of Westminster, a large share of homes are that age. Full-height TV and media units can run up to the picture rail or the cornice, so the furniture looks as if it belongs to the house. Blocked fireplaces are common too, and a capped chimney should still be ventilated before anything is built against it.
Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

How fitting works for TV and media units
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so it helps to let neighbours know about fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You get in touch about a built-in TV unit.
- We visit to measure, note the sockets and agree where everything will go.
- You receive a quote setting out the layout and the paint finish.
- The unit is made at our workshop, with cable routes and vents built in, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- Fitting day: the unit goes in, is levelled and scribed, and the cable routes are left clear. A hand-painted finish is done on site, if you chose one.
Before fitting day
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

How we price TV and media units
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- Parking near your home
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Questions we are often asked
Do you cover homes near Bond Street station?
Yes, homes across Westminster and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
My house in City of Westminster is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?
Yes, that’s normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it, and it is agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
Will the cables be hidden?
We design the unit so cables run out of sight. Access panels make future changes easy without taking the unit apart. If the TV is wall-mounted, we plan a route behind the screen.
How long will the fitting take?
The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We’ll talk you through what to expect beforehand.
What happens at the measuring visit?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We’ll also ask about access and parking.
Looking after your furniture
Looking after painted furniture is simple with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Count your equipment, including routers and consoles
- Think about whether you will upgrade the screen
- Think about which things need to be seen by a remote
- Plan any new sockets with your electrician before fitting
Doors can settle a little once the unit is in use. Hinges can typically be adjusted to line them up again.
Heavy equipment is best kept low, and no single shelf overloaded.

Near the centre of City of Westminster, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Mark's (Grade I), less than half a mile south, and Stratford House (Grade I), under half a mile north-east. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.
For families living near St Vincent's Catholic Primary School, TV and media units can be planned with low cupboards for toys and higher shelves for everything else. Close to Hyde Park? TV and media units can be planned to frame a window with a view rather than block it. The wider area includes historic houses such as Handel Hendrix House, about 0.3 miles east. If your own home is a period one, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place.
