TV and media units in Hyde Park Estate

Cables are the part most people want to hide. Cable routes are built into the design from the start, with holes, channels and access panels so leads can be added or changed later. We make the routes, and your electrician handles any wiring. Most enquiries start with equipment with nowhere proper to go and a TV that looks out of place in the room; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Most homes around Hyde Park Estate are purpose-built flats, so the route in is part of the plan. TV and media units are made in sections sized to go up the stairs, into the lift and through the front door, and assembled and fitted in place. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.

A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

What affects the cost of TV and media units

The price for your room depends on:

  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

We do not publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, message us from the contact page.

What we need to know

These details help when you get in touch:

  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Any ideas or images you have saved
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters

It is useful to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space. To send them over, get in touch through our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Common questions about TV and media units

My home in Hyde Park Estate is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Do you make TV and media units for homes in Hyde Park Estate?

Yes. Hyde Park Estate is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Westminster and London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can you build a TV unit for a wall-mounted TV?

The unit can be planned either way. If the TV is wall-mounted, panels and shelves are arranged around the bracket and cables.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

What if I buy a larger TV?

We can plan the opening with a bigger screen in mind, if you expect to upgrade. Mention the largest screen you might buy when we visit.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

When is bespoke worth it?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

From workshop to your room

The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Noise from drilling travels in a block, so neighbours may appreciate a note, and many buildings limit noisy work to certain hours. Fitting day is planned around any rules your building has. Saturdays can be arranged if your building allows work then.

  1. You send us a note about the room and the unit you’d like.
  2. We visit to measure and talk through the design and how the unit should look in the room.
  3. You get a written quote covering the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. The unit is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF, which takes paint well, and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home; a hand-painted finish is applied once it’s in and is easy to touch up later. Go gently with new paintwork while it cures.

How to prepare

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Empty the space we will be working in
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

Starting with a design visit

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, message us from the contact page.

Advice

Flats, conversions and lettings

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Let us know about it when you get in touch.

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so tell us about it during the design visit.

Living-room carpentry in Hyde Park Estate: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Hyde Park Estate were built before 1919 (about 42%) and since 2000 (about 18%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Part of Hyde Park Estate is in the Bayswater Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of inner London. For fitting in Hyde Park Estate, a van normally needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Tell us what parking is near you during the design visit.

For a flat near London Paddington station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. Handel Hendrix House, about 1 mile east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place.

Hyde Park Estate is about 1 mile east of City of Westminster, part of the City of Westminster. Homes in Hyde Park Estate are part of the area we cover for TV and media units, as part of our work in every London borough. In Westminster, Hyde Park Estate is one of the places we cover.

Design visits and fitting in W1H, W2 and W1K work the same way as everywhere else we cover. If your home is on a street such as Craven Road, Harbet Road and Edgware Road, or close by, we can arrange a design visit for TV and media units. Hyde Park Estate sits close to the A402 and A4205, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. Neighbouring places we cover for TV and media units include Connaught Village (1 mile east), Tyburn (1 mile south-east), Paddington (1 mile north-west), Paddington Green (1 mile north-west) and City of Westminster (1 mile east). Other parts of Westminster we cover include Soho (2 miles east), Chinatown (2 miles east), St James's (2 miles east), Covent Garden (2 miles east), Aldwych (2 miles east) and Charing Cross (2 miles east).

Why people ask for TV and media units in Hyde Park Estate

Families with consoles, games and controllers want them tidied away. Drawers and cupboards hold them out of sight, and open shelves hold what’s used every day.

TV and media units can help with:

  • Clutter around the TV
  • A screen at the wrong height
  • Standard units leaving gaps
  • Space for a soundbar and speakers

If your children go to Hampden Gurney CofE Primary School or a school nearby, shelving with deep cupboards below keeps books, games and school things in one place.
