TV and media units in Tyburn, Westminster

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on TV and media units in Tyburn starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.

Common questions about TV and media units

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Tyburn?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

How do you fit TV and media units in a flat in Tyburn?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. TV and media units are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Can a built-in unit hide all the wires?

We plan cable routes through the unit from the start, with access panels for later changes. Where cables reach the wall depends on the sockets, so it helps to plan sockets with your electrician.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, but it’s useful to be around at the end.

Do pictures help?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you drop us a line using the contact form.

What affects the price of TV and media units?

Size, doors and drawers, what goes inside and the finish all affect it, along with access and parking. We send a quote in writing after the design visit.

TV and media units in Tyburn

Speakers need their own thought. A soundbar can sit on a shelf below the screen, and larger speakers can go on open shelves either side. Closing speakers in a cupboard muffles them, so we leave open bays for them. If your home has a TV that looks out of place in the room and boxes with no ventilation, that’s what TV and media units are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

With a large share of homes around Tyburn built before 1919, lots of living rooms are two reception rooms knocked into one, each with its own chimney breast. That can mean one pair of alcoves for shelving and the other for low cupboards, with the screen on a chimney breast between. Some internal walls in houses of that age are lath and plaster, so fixings are chosen to suit what’s behind the paint.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Practical tips

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it’s worth looking after. A few pointers help:

  • Look at what the equipment makers say about airflow
  • Decide whether the TV will be wall-mounted or stand on the unit
  • Plan any new sockets with your electrician before fitting
  • Tell us about parking and access at the measuring visit

Use the access panels and cable routes when you add or change leads. It keeps everything neat.

Don’t let clutter build up against the unit’s vents as things change.

Flats, leases and landlords

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

How fitting day works

Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through, and the sections are joined and scribed in the room.

  1. You get in touch about a built-in TV unit.
  2. We visit to measure, note the sockets and agree where everything will go.
  3. We send a written quote with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The unit is built in our workshop, with cable routes and vents built in.
  5. Fitting day: the unit goes in, is levelled and scribed, and the cable routes are left clear. A hand-painted finish is done on site, if you chose one.

Preparing the room

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Ask for a quote

To get a quote, send us a few details through our contact form and let us know which room you have in mind. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and send you a written quote afterwards.

Advice

The problems TV and media units solve

Families with consoles, games and controllers want them tidied away. Drawers and cupboards hold them out of sight, and open shelves hold what’s used every day.

Common reasons to get in touch include:

  • Alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste
  • Speakers muffled behind doors
  • Equipment with nowhere proper to go
  • A big screen that dominates the wall

If you live near Hyde Park, shelving that stops short of the window keeps the view of the green.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Will the quote be in writing?

TV and media units for homes in Tyburn

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Tyburn were built before 1919 (about 50%) and since 2000 (about 15%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Part of Tyburn is in the Bayswater Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Westminster included. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Tyburn is covered by it. We go through parking and access during the design visit.

Handel Hendrix House, about 0.8 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of the Annunciation, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at.

Tyburn is part of the City of Westminster, about 1 mile east of City of Westminster. Tyburn is part of the area we cover, and the process is the same everywhere we work. Our work takes in places right across Westminster.

Postcode districts we cover here for TV and media units: W1H, W1U and W1K. We cover homes on streets such as Sussex Square, Oxford Square and Bayswater Road, for TV and media units and any of our other fitted furniture. Tyburn is near the A4209; on busy main roads, unloading TV and media units takes a little planning. Other places close to Tyburn include Connaught Village (1 mile north-west), Hyde Park Estate (1 mile north-west), Paddington (1 mile north-west), City of Westminster (1 mile east) and Paddington Green (1 mile north-west). We also make TV and media units in nearby places such as Covent Garden (2 miles east), Aldwych (2 miles east), Charing Cross (2 miles east), Adelphi (2 miles east), Clare Market (2 miles east) and Westminster (2 miles south-east).

What it costs

Several things affect the price:

  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • The width and height of the space
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. It helps to talk about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.

Helping us understand the room

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • Any ideas or images you have saved

A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you’re ready, use our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
