TV and media units for your home in Mayfair
TV and media units in Mayfair: local notes
About 51% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Mayfair went up before 1919, and about 20% since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The National Heritage List has 858 entries within half a mile of the centre of Mayfair. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and TV and media units can be designed to work around them. Streets close to central London are often narrow and busy, with loading bays in short supply, so the route from the van to your door is planned beforehand, particularly for larger pieces.
Near listed buildings like Naval and Military Club, under half a mile south of the centre of Mayfair, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent. Handel Hendrix House, about 0.2 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. For a family home near LITE Regal International School, low doors that small hands can open, with books and ornaments higher up, suit a busy family room.

How we make TV and media units for Mayfair
Cables are the part most people want to hide. Cable routes are built into the design from the start, with holes, channels and access panels so leads can be added or changed later. We make the routes, and your electrician handles any wiring. We make TV and media units from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the things people most often want solved are a big screen that dominates the wall and boxes with no ventilation.
Picture rails, deep skirting boards and plaster cornices are part of the character of older houses, and TV and media units need to meet those lines neatly. Homes built before 1919 make up a large share of the housing around Mayfair, so mouldings are something we expect to talk about during the design visit. The top of the furniture can stop at the picture rail or carry on to the cornice, whichever suits the room.
A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

FAQs: TV and media units in Mayfair
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Bond Street station?
Yes, homes across Westminster and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Mayfair?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.
How do I get a quote?
Simply tell us about the room on our contact form. Rough measurements and a few pictures help, and then we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote in writing.
What finishes do you offer?
You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Usually not. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings can require listed building consent for works that affect their character, so check with the council first.
Can you add sockets behind the TV?
We do not do electrical work. Your electrician handles sockets and wiring, and Part P of the Building Regulations covers some electrical work in homes. We share the layout so the sockets line up with the design.
Flats, leases and landlords
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We can’t give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.
Practical tips
A few practical points help before and after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Count your equipment, including routers and consoles
- Measure your TV, or the size you expect to buy next
- Note which boxes need line of sight for their remotes
- Think about the viewing height from your sofa
Vents and equipment shelves gather dust, so clean them now and then. It keeps air moving.
Avoid piling devices on one shelf. Each one needs space around it.
Where other trades come in
We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:
- Plastering or decorating around the unit
- Any electrical work (your electrician handles that, and Part P covers some of it)
- Connecting the TV signal or internet
If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Materials and finishes
Spray-painted finish
Spray painting is done in the workshop, giving a smooth, even surface that suits clean, modern lines.
Birch plywood
For carcasses and drawer boxes, birch plywood is hard-wearing that stand up to daily use. The edge can be painted or left as a detail.
From workshop to your room
However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You let us know about the room and what the unit needs to hold.
- We come to measure and talk through screen height, speakers and cables.
- A written quote follows.
- We then make the unit in our workshop, with cable routes planned in.
- The unit is fitted in your home, ready for your equipment.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
